My little officially started VPK today (voluntary pre-Kindergarten). It’s her last year before Kindergarten. Where does the time go?! For her first day, she presented her teachers with a simple gift tied up with a cute printable teacher gift tag.
I found my apple notepads came from a local store (on clearance!) but these Post-It Apple Notepads are just as cute. (And only $4.99 for a two pack!)
You could use any pen, but I made these Pom-Pom pens as a fun back to school desk accessories for daughters, and they turned out so cute I thought they would be perfect with the apple notepads. No one will walk off with these pens by mistake!
How To Make Pom-Pom Pens
I didn’t take any pictures of the process when I made the Pom-Pom pens because I wasn’t really sure what I was doing. I made it up as I went along. But I love these pom-pom pens so much, I am sure I will make more. They are quick, easy and a great way to use up fabric scraps.
Cut 20-30 fabric strips approx 18 inches long and 1/4 inch wide. (The more strips, the fluffier!) The easiest way to do this is with a Rotary cutter and self-healing cutting matt. If you don’t have one, get one. They will become your new best friends!
Once you have all of your strips, wrap them one by one around three or four fingers. Wrap each strip on top of the last strip, and alternate some strips with the right side facing in, some strips with the right side facing out.
Slide the strips off your fingers and use a piece of baker’s twine to tie the middle of the strips. Tie tight! Cut through the loops on each end and fluff.
Place a dab of hot glue to the middle of the pom-pom and attach to the end of a pen. Fluff the pom-pom again and ta-da!
Printable Teacher Gift Tag
Finally, I tied the whole gift up in a nice bow and attached the “Take Note… It’s Going To Be A Great Year!” gift tag.
