Reading has been part of our daughters’ bedtime routine since before they were born. A friend gave us The Going to Bed Book at my baby shower, and from the night I brought that book home my husband started reading it to my belly every night. Eight years later, the story is still part of our nightly ritual — even if we don’t even need the book to recite the story anymore.
Reading out loud to kids helps them build vocabulary and fundamental literacy skills. Making reading part of the daily routine is a great time to bond with and help foster a life-long love of reading. To encourage making nightly reading as routine as brushing teeth, I partnered with Orajel™ to tell parents about the Read2Me Tonight Challenge.
The Read2Me Tonight Challenge offers parents resources and tips on oral hygiene and establishing a reading routine. If you are working on building a library for your little ones, be sure to check out the list of 100 Best Read-Aloud Books. Since we are always looking for new reading material, one of my favorite resources is the free ebook The Three Bees.
