With the 4th of July fast approaching, I started thinking about an easy and patriotic desert my kids could help make for our family celebration. Last year, K and I made these amazing Lemon Crackle Cookies. (Seriously, if you like lemon, try them!) They were so good, I wondered if they would be good with white cake mix.
Guess what? They are delicious! Of course, white isn’t very patriotic so I added a little red and blue food coloring and poof — festive Red, White and Blue Crackle Cookies!
Red, White and Blue Crackle Cookies
I am totally going to pat myself on the back for these because K had a great time making them, they are super cute and oh-so-yummy!
Ingredients
- Betty Crocker Super Moist White Cake Mix
- 2 Eggs
- 1/3 Cup Oil
- 1/3 Cup Powdered Sugar
Mix eggs, oil and cake mix in a large bowl.
Separate dough into three equal amounts. In a small bowl dye one part red and in another bowl dye another part blue.
Aren’t the colors pretty?
Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes. (Creates fluffier cookies.)
Roll tablespoon size balls of dough in powdered sugar.
Bake for 9-11 minutes at 375 degrees.
The one thing that I will tell you about making cookies is that the dough is super sticky. As in the stickiest dough I have ever seen. Don’t worry, that’s normal.
The test run of Red, White and Blue Crackle Cookies was a hit. What could be better than quick, easy, pretty and delicious cookies — made with my daughter?
Happy 4th of July.

These are neat cookies for the 4th of July!
thanks
These were so easy and tasty. One note- we inadvertently left the dough in the fridge overnight which resulted in the dough not being too sticky so easy to handle.
Hi! I adore these cookies. Found this site off Pinterest years ago and I’ve made these for friends baby gender reveal parties and Christmas parties that everyone asks for every year. I’ve also used Funfetti cake mix and they are also so tasty and works great. I wanted to know if anyone knew the calories in each cookie with the original recipe (the white cake mix). If you do, lease let me know! Thanks so much!
Easy and quick to make. To help eliminate the Stickiness when rolling into balls I dippers my fingers in the power sugar and then rolled into balls. It really helped. Also, since it’s basically just white cake I found the cookies lacked favor. On the next batch I will add flavored extract; almond or peppermint, to give it some punch.
