How To Make Spring Cleaning Fun

Although cleaning isn’t generally considered a fun chore, there is something invigorating about a whole-house refresh. It’s the end result that makes spring cleaning worthwhile. But there are things you can do to make the spring cleaning fun. Since a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, adding a bit fun to even the most dreary chore can make it easier and faster.

Pump Up You Jam

Even Snow White knew the importance of humming a merry little tune as she taught her animal friends to Whistle While You Work. And the princess was on the right track, even the dullest of chores is better when you pump up your favorite tunes.

A Family Affair

Don’t do it alone. Recruit your mini helpers to get in on the cleaning and make it a family event. Even toddlers can dust. Plus getting the kids involved from an early age is a great way to set an example and show them how they can be contributing members of the family.

If you are worried about chemicals and kids, I recommend making your own cleaning products. Find lots of homemade cleaning recipes on my Spring Cleaning Pinterest board.

Pair those DIY cleaners with Viva® paper towels. Viva Towels have a signature soft and smooth texture, like an undershirt cloth. They are great for cleaning delicate surfaces like countertops and coffee tables, and even soft enough for the hands and face. They are so strong you can even wash, rinse and use them again!

Put Away Bucket

I could spend all day walking from room to room returning things to the places they belong, roaming from room to room. But I have found the most productive method that keeps me going is to bring along a put away bucket to each room I clean. As I find things that don’t belong, I fill the bucket. Then when the room is clean I can quickly move from one room to the next putting away the items I collected.

Tackle The Stink First

I think we can all agree that the bathroom is the most dreaded room of spring cleaning fun. By tackling the hardest rooms first when you are fresh and ready to go, you can get the yuckiest of assignments done and look forward to sprucing up easier rooms.

Before heading to the bathrooms, be sure to bring along extra Scott® 1000 bathroom or Cottonelle® Clean Care toilet paper to restock your supply. (There’s nothing worse than realizing after you use the toilet that someone used the last of the TP!)

Give It New Life

As a lifelong pack rat, it is hard for me to purge. I love all of my stuff. But spring cleaning is the time to part with the old. What helps me to part with my stuff is to imagine the next person using it and enjoying it as much as I do. Finding a local organization to share my things with others helps me know I am doing good for others. And consigning my nicest things helps me afford to buy new things to fall in love with.

Find great deals on Viva, Cottonelle and Scott products for all of your spring cleaning needs at Walmart. Happy spring cleaning.

  8. I love these tips, especially not to take on too much at once. I usually get overwhelmed and want to quit but if I make a list of projects to do each day it would really help!

  11. I like the idea of a checklist: that way if I ask the man to clean the bathroom, he’ll have an actual idea of what I mean!

  12. I really like the put away bucket idea. I usually just arm carry everything, then drop something, then bend over to pick it up, then drop something else. It’s a vicious circle.

  14. It seems that most of the clutter in our house is just stuff in the wrong place. Your “put away bucket” could be the key to help me start to get a handle on all of that clutter–thanks for the idea! I’m hoping to do a purge this spring, and our local no-kill shelter (from which we’ve adopted our cat and one of our dogs) is having a yard sale next month, so I have a good place to donate the usable items.
