When someone mentioned giving a monthly gift to their high school senior on the day of the month of their graduation year, I was all in! I LOVE the idea of celebrating my senior every month and creating a fun tradition. I also love the idea of being practical and using this as an opportunity to start stocking up on things my senior will need in the coming months. What Is A Monthly Gift For High School Seniors
Here’s the concept: every month on the day of the month that corresponds with the graduation year, I give my daughter a gift. Since she will graduate in 2026, this means she receives her gift on the 26th of each month. Cute, right?
Of course, you could gift your high school senior with anything. I’ve seen people giving a monthly gift card or cash. I’ve seen people giving candy and treats. I’ve also seen people do a special outing each month with their senior on the special day (love this, but it seemed tricky with a busy schedule!) I even have a whole list of class of 2026 themed gifts that would be great for this. But I decided early on, I would go with themed practical gifts – well, mostly practical. Some items are just for fun.
When To Start Monthly Gifts For High School Seniors
This month! No, really any time works. My plan was to start in August after she went back to school and go through the following July just before leaving for college, but I ended up deciding some of her first gifts would be best suited for the first weeks of school. So I started in July before her Senior year.
You can also stop the monthly gifts any time you want. Graduation seems like a great time to stop. I know there will still be things she needs for college over the summer, so for me I like the idea of keeping it going until she leaves.
How Much To Spend On Monthly Gifts For High School Seniors
For me, this will vary greatly every month, but I also LOVE a good deal. So part of the reason I like this plan is that giving items monthly allows me to plan in advance and look for deals. I also have no problem with gifting her items picked up from my Buy Nothing group. Also because many of the items are things she will need for her future dorm rooms, this helps me spread out that cost and buy things when they are on sale. What To Give As A Monthly Gift For High School Seniors
As mentioned, you can give anything – big or small. For my daughter I decided to go with themed gift baskets. As the months progress, my themes will be things she will need for her future dorm room (think storage, laundry, bedding, etc) . The idea is to give her gifts of things she will need in the future to get her excited about her future college days or maybe even her graduation party, and to spread out my budget throughout the year! The first two months, my theme was pretty much the same thing. Gifts to celebrate her senior year that she could use throughout the year. Crafty items to make her Senior Jeans and Senior Crown, items in her school colors, etc. After that, my gifts turned more practical to put away for college. This basket was filled with practical things and a little tongue-in-cheek humor from mom. All of the items in this basket are ones my daughter regularly borrows from me. I decided it was time for her to have her own versions so she doesn’t try to take my things with her to college.

That’s how I am celebrating my senior during her senior year in high school. Between the college applications and keeping her grades up, I think she deserves a little celebration each month.
