I created this Sweet ‘N Low recipe for a Skinny Red, White And Blue Margarita as a sponsored post for the Socialstars #donthesitaste campaign. The recipe and opinions are my own.
The 4th of July is less than two weeks away, and I am excited to share a brand new recipe featuring a colorful spin on my favorite frozen concoction. One that would make Jimmy Buffet proud. I believe this Skinny Red, White and Blue Margarita will be a hit at our 4th of July celebration — and yours too!
Although it takes a little more time to create each layer, it really isn’t hard to make. Plus it would be very easy to double the recipe for a large group. Just blend, freeze, layer and serve.
As an added bonus, each skinny margarita contains a cup of fruit!
Ingredients
This recipe makes 4 full mason jars or six tall, skinny glasses.
Strawberry Layer
- 2 1/2 cups of frozen strawberries
- Juice from 2 limes (approx 1/4 cup)
- 2 oz of tequila
- 10 packs of Sweet N Low
- 1 cup of ice
Lime Layer
- Juice from 4 limes (approx 1/2 cup)
- 2 oz of tequila
- 10 packs of Sweet N Low
- 2 1/2 cup of ice
Blueberry Layer
- 1 cup of frozen blueberries
- Juice from 2 limes (approx 1/4 cup)
- 2 oz of tequila
- 10 packs of Sweet N Low
- 1 cup of ice
For each of the margarita layers add the fruit, limes, tequila, ice and Sweet ‘N Low to the blender and pulse until smooth. (If mixture is too thin, add ice.) Pour into a container, and store each layer in the freezer while you blend the next layer.
Repeat for all three margarita layers.
To rim glasses with salt run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, and then dip glass into a plate of salt.
Allow all layers to sit in the freezer for 15-30 minutes. Then use a spoon to scoop margarita into glasses one layer at a time. Use small scoops, if you scoop too much at a time the next layer will disrupt the previous layer.
Layer your strawberry, lime and blueberry layers.
Serve with a lime and a festive straw and enjoy.
For about 5-10 minutes (less if you are outside) the layers sit nicely on top of each other providing a pretty red, white and blue design. Eventually the blueberry layer starts to bleed. Since the strawberry layer never seemed to bleed into the lime, next time I will layer blue, white and red. I think the blueberry bits are just to heavy and sink.
Even once the layers start to bleed, this skinny margarita is delicious. So either way everyone will enjoy. Just ask my neighbors who got to taste test the leftovers.
Be sure to mention The Suburban Mom at the event for a special gift. See where you can meet up with Sweet’N Low® this summer at: sweetnlow.com/tour.
