I think a bedroom should be a sanctuary. It should be a place that feels tranquil with a bed that makes you want to curl up and take a nap. It should be your happy place. Even when the rest of the house (and life) is a chaotic mess, your bedroom should be that room that you can go to and relax.
For me tranquility starts with blue, specifically teal or aqua. That is my happy color. When I went to the Better Homes and Gardens for Walmart headquarters last summer, I absolutely fell in love with the Better Homes and Gardens Kashmir 5-Piece Bedding Comforter Set. Feel in love. I knew it had to be mine. So I was thrilled when BHG for Walmart challenged me to create a bedroom makeover on a budget. Perfect!
Master Bedroom Makeover On A Budget
One of the quickest and simplest ways to makeover a bedroom is to swap out the bedding. As quick as you can make the bed, you can change then entire look and feel of a room. And I am beyond thrilled with my new look.
This is the fourth bedding set that has adorned my bed in the last 10 years, but it is also my favorite. The first was an expensive name brand duvet cover, that did not hold up for the price we paid. The second was a nice comforter, that was completely destroyed by my daughter when she was an infant — way to many washings to get out the constant battle of baby spit up. My third was a super cheap comforter I picked up on clearance for $25 just to rid myself of baby smell. This comforter — it speaks to me.
The set I bought is now sold out online, but you might be able to find it in store. There are also several other Better Homes and Gardens for Walmart 5-piece comforter sets available online, so you might find another pattern you love.
I bought the set, set up the room, showed my husband and then told him how much I paid for it — $49! His reaction?
“That can’t be. This is WAY too nice for $49.”
And he is right. This comforter is way too nice for its price tag. Plus when I brought the set home I was shocked to realize that the $49.95 set included the two throw pillows. (I was so excited I totally missed that it is a 5-piece set — comforter, two shams and two throw pillows.) Talk about budget decorating – I didn’t even had to seek out and purchase new throw pillows!
And for the lamp shade a silver linen shade, also from BHG for Walmart, that won’t break the bank at only $9.60 each. That makes the pair of lamps and shades less than $50.
