Easy Pumpkin Washi Tape Craft

I admit to having a slight obsession with Washi Tape. It is so pretty and so easy to use that it is hard not to love. We won’t talk about how many rolls of the brightly colored paper tape I currently have sitting on my desk. Whether you are obsessed with washi tape crafts like I am or you have never played with it, you can make this easy washi tape craft on about 15 minutes.

This craft is super-duper easy, and the best part is that it works for all fall decorating. It looks great with my Halloween decor and will transition nicely to Thanksgiving decorations. In fact, it would be cheerful on a buffet for Thanksgiving dinner.

Materials

  • Orange Washi Tape
  • Green Washi Tape
  • 6×6 Stretched Burlap Canvas
  • Foam Board or cardboard
  • Hot Glue
  • X-acto Knife

For this project I printed the template from my Pumpkin Halloween Countdown at 50% of the original size. Depending on the size canvas you use, you may want to adjust the size.

Trace the template onto the foam board. If you don’t have foam board, cardboard would also work. You could also upcycle a cereal box for this, but it won’t have the same dimensional effect of thicker foam board or cardboard. And remember, washi tape is often see through — so white helps the colors pop.

Cut out the pumpkin shape with an X-acto knife.

Cover the pumpkin in washi tape, and trim edges clean.

Adhere pumpkin to the canvas with hot glue.

*Note I found the 6×6 burlap canvas at Michael’s in a four pack. If you are unable to find them, you could also cover a stretched canvas with burlap, which was my original plan.

The entire washi tape craft took 15 minutes to complete.

If you want the exact washi tape I used for this craft, I used this washi tape set. But I have to warn you, this style is now retired so it is more expensive than when I bought it.

I think I might make more of these as gifts for guests at Thanksgiving, what do you think?

I haven’t heard of Washi tape before today but it looks like a fun project. I also love the duct tape mustache pumpkin in your sidebar. 😉
