Samsung Galaxy Android Camera Review

I take a lot of pictures – a lot. My camera is basically attached to me at all times. But I constantly battle between using my “good” camera and using my cell so I share the image instantly. I often take the same picture twice just so I can share it, and have it on my good camera. (All the while my kids are squirming!)

I found a solution that combines instant sharing with a “real” camera!

Staples sent me the Samsung Galaxy EK-GC110 to test for a month as part of the #30SummerDays Instagram challenge, where I took a daily almost daily themed photo. And I am a big fan of my new toy!

The Samsung Galaxy EK-GC110 is a 16 megapixel camera with a 21x super long optical zoom and 23mm wide-angle lens, which can be operated fully automatic or fully manual. Pretty cool for a point and shoot.

But here is where it gets interesting – the Samsung Galaxy EK-GC110 is and a camera based on an Android operating system, which means it runs apps just like a cell phone. Email, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook — any app you can think of. So when connected to Wifi, you can share pictures from the Samsung Galaxy EK-GC110 just as easily as from your phone.

I come from a camera-loving family, and when I showed up at my cousin’s wedding with the Samsung Galaxy everyone was impressed. In fact, the only problem with the camera is that I missed taking pictures for most of the cocktail reception because it was being passed around for everyone to check out. The good news is that many people wanted to test the camera, so I got plenty of pictures.

While at the wedding, there was no Internet connection, but as soon as I got back to the hotel I was able to send all of the special moments to Instagram without uploading them to a computer first. Easy sharing, great photos.

Bride Groom
I also used the camera as my sole camera on our family vacation in Savannah, which is saying a lot. And the camera didn’t disappoint.

Throughout the month of June I participated in a #30SummerDays Instagram challenge, where I took an almost daily themed photo. And my favorite place that I took the camera was to Disney because I was able to hop on the public Wifi to share on the go. (Check out how well it handles low-light.)

Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Night
I am impressed with the quality of the pictures taken with the Samsung Galaxay, and it is just plain cool. Everywhere I go people stop to ask about the camera — they can’t miss the huge 4.8 inch screen.

With a built-in Photo Wizard, you can even edit photos on the phone before sharing them. Adjust brightness and color, add effects, crop and more all from the camera. Oh and it has an 8G onboard memory with the ability to increase storage with a micro SDSC slot too. For a shutterbug like me, that’s a good thing.

I like to tell people that the only thing the Samsung Galaxy camera can’t do is make phone calls!

  30. Where wouldn’t I take this is the question! I would take it with me on vacation in 10 days to Marco Island Florida to take pictures of the beautiful sunsets and my family at play. As a Realtor, I would take it on home showings with clients to take pictures of the homes features, and to closings to take a closing day photo of my buyers signing the paperwork for their new home, and I’d also use it to do short videos to present my clients of their new home. This is a great carry-everywhere-use-every-day sized camera!

  34. If I won this amazing camera, I would be taking it into the delivery room in December so my fiancée can capture the labor and delivery of our 3rd little one. We are beyond thrilled to be welcoming one last baby into the family. Unfortunately, our current camera has been in the grubby hands of a toddler and the even grubbier hands of her older brother. It really doesn’t capture the beautiful moments of daily life and the rare moments like the birth of a baby as well as it used to. Someday we hope to buy a dslr, but until then this camera would be the perfect fill in! Thanks for the chance Jen!
