Making Family Memories One Summer At A Time ~ $50 Giveaway

TSM-PP

I was sitting in the audience at the Disney Social Media Moms conference in 2012 when Ann Foster, Director of Disney Destinations and Consumer Insight, said something that has stuck with. In an effort to point out the importance of making memories, she reminded us that we have only 18 summers to make memories with our children — 18 summers.

Like many in the audience those words struck me as I realized I was down to 14 summers left with my oldest. Moms say it again and again, “They get big so fast,” but those words struck a chord.

We try our best to make the most of our summers with trips to the beach, spontaneous day trips and lots of visits to see the Mouse.

At the end of a long week, I often feel discouraged that we didn’t do enough. But when I look back at pictures of the summer, I am reminded that while a single week may have been average, we have done a great deal over the course of many weeks. Visits from cousins, hosting a lemonade stand and neighborhood pool parties — our summer may not be grand gestures like big trips, but it is filled with great memories.

Beach family

In our house, laughter is the hallmark for creating special memories and with a family of goofballs we make lots of silly memories.Seaweed Mustache

Although I look forward to big trips (especially when baby sister gets a bit older), I have come to realize that we make memories every day. And since I am always there with a camera, I have photos to prove it.

Making lunchtime memorable

Now that summer has come to an end, I keep trying to find ways to help make memories big and small with my girls. Since I no longer eat lunch with my gal, I like to send little love notes from mom tucked into her lunch box. I still remember my mom doing this for me, so I have faith that even when I am not with her I am helping her make memories of her days.

  4. My #ShareWhatsGood family moment is ongoing. We do what’s called family dinner night (once my kids got older). Even as teens and then adults, my kids loved it and we play games. What touched me most was when they just had their own babies and I didn’t schedule family dinner night, they took over and started the tradition at their houses! So, we get to continue on, but not have all the work!

  7. My memory for the Summer is seeing my kids stuck in mud up to their waists. The reservoir was very low and they found a great mucky spot. Boy did they have fun playing in the mud that weekend.

  17. This summer I welcomed my third little one in to our lives…a boy. I have two daughters already. While every moment I cherish with my babies, it was such a sweet thing to watch my babies cuddle with each other each morning over the summer. Talk about feeling blessed as they all sat there in their jammies with freshly opened eyes looking to me for that first hug of the morning that would set the tone for the day. I’m blessed.
