Get ready to hit the waves and bop to the beat with Disney Channel’s newest original movie. Disney’s Teen Beach Movie is a throw back to the 60’s when breaking into song and dance on a whim was expected and summer never went out of style.
When Mack (Maia Mitchell) and her boyfriend Brady (Ross Lynch) hit the waves one last time before she has to leave their beach-side town for school their world is turned upside down when they are mysteriously transported into Brady’s favorite movie Wet Side Story. Set in 1962 its surfers versus bikers in a turf war for control of the beach hangout Big Momma’s, and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance. Brady and Mack must try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever when they inadvertently alter the movie’s romantic storyline — and the handsome leading man, surfer Tanner is falling for McKenzie while biker girl Lela is swooning for Brady. Can out heroes get the plot back on track, or will they be trapped there forever?
I have to admit that I was more excited to watch the movie than my daughter – confession I am total teen movie junky. With a plot line that feels like a little bit West Side Story meets Back to the Future meets Grease how could one go wrong? Not surprisingly, I loved the movie. Lots of vibrant colors, fun song and dance numbers and a classical musical for a new generation (and their dorky parents – me!). And one song into the movie, my daughter was equally hooked.
Teen Beach Movie is a fun movie for the whole family. Even if dad rolled his eyes a couple of times, I am pretty sure he enjoyed it at least a little bit too.
