Goodbye lazy summer days. Hello routine and schedule. That’s right K is back and school and there’s no more time to laze about, it is full go-go-go mode! Between school, ballet, football season (right around the corner!), birthdays (mine and baby girl’s 1st) the next few months will fly by before we know it because there is so much filling our busy days.
I love this time of year, and I am excited about all of the things we have planned, but sometimes it is nice to take a step back and have some fun too! That’s why my brilliant idea of game night to celebrate the first week of school was such a hit with the family. (I am a genius, what can I say?)
After a busy week I knew everyone would be ready for a low-key Saturday night, so off to Walmart I went to get a simple dinner to enjoy with game night. I was also on the hunt for some healthy lunchbox alternatives too. Check out my journey in my Google+ slide show.
Inspired by Dip Dip Hooray I picked up Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Ore Ida Crinkle Fries and some Heinz Ketchup (for dipping, of course). No dinner is complete without a veggie, so I also picked up some edamame in a steamable bag. Easy peasy dinner. Oh and guess what I found on the bottle of ketchup? A coupon for $2 off when you buy Tyson, Ore Ida and Heinz – perfect!
Back at home K danced around the house singing, “We’re having family game night tonight” over and over. She was quite excited.
While my husband manned the oven, toaster oven and microwave – all running at the same time, K and I decided on Chutes & Ladders. (Sigh… I have a love hate relationship with this game!)
After dinner was cleared it was game time.
The first game was completed in record Chutes & Ladders time. I managed to get some lucky moves and shot straight to the top! Score for mom! The second game… well, let’s just say we only managed to play two games. LOL. Next time I vote for Candy Land! The good news is that after a long game, K finally won. So it was smiles all around.
We all loved game night. It was a great time to hang out and do something together as a family, we even pulled S up to the table in her high chair. And, of course, there was music!!! This will have to be a more regularly scheduled event for sure!
Oh and I wanna tell you more about #DipDipHooray. I am so envious of this. I know it’s so cliche…but those moments go so fast.
With my oldest in heaven and my youngest a 15 year old who certainly doesn’t want to be hanging with mom, I was so reminded of game nights and family time that the kids got excited about.
Enjoy your time together.
Wow, what a really nice family night! I liked the meal you made, and this gives me a fun night to have with my family! Sometimes I am lazy and do not want to do anything, but this blog post really encouraged me to have a fun game night!
Aw, it looks like you had a really fun night!
I totally get the Love/Hate relationship with games! We play and play and play. As soon as the kids are old enough to upgrade to a more sophisticated game (at whatever age level they are) then we do!
