Netgear Arlo Wireless Home Security Cameras From Best Buy

My household is very high-tech with wireless everything and a lot of home automation. I love that we live in a smart house, and I love that our house just got smarter! Thanks to a partnership with Best Buy, my family has new Netgear Arlo wireless home security cameras and no more WiFi dead zones thanks to Netgear’s new Dead Spot Terminator.

The Netgear Arlo wireless home security cameras work with the new Netgear Nighthawk DST and my husband was all too happy to help me set up the new tech for review.

WiFi is a necessity in our everyday lives. I rely on it everyday for my blog, and there are few things as frustrating as when it is on the fritz. It’s a problem we have dealt with for quite some time as our router is in one corner of our house, and the far side of the house where are bedroom is has been known to be a bit spotty and not great for streaming Netflix.

Netgear has developed an exclusive new router, available at Best Buy, that ends dead zones with an easy-t0-use product and great support. The new Netgear Nighthawk DST AC1900 Wireless-AC Gigabit Router combines a high-performance, dual-band wireless-AC gigabit router, DST (Dead Spot Terminator) adapter that uses your homes electrical wiring to extend your WiFi network and one-year of 24/7 Geek Squad set up and support (no appointment necessary) in a single package.

The Dead Spot Terminator acts as a signal booster ensuring proper signal strength from one end of the house to the other. The new router was surprisingly easy to get up and running. After powering off my old cable modem and router, I connected the new Netgear Nighthawk DST router in place of my old one and plugged in the DST adapter in our bedroom, which is furthest away from the router. After powering everything back on, I connected to the preconfigured WiFi network with the password included, opened my web browser and was taken to the setup page for the router.

The setup process was clear and concise and within a few minutes my new router was up and running. I took my laptop into the bedroom, which used to have the worst WiFi signal strength in the house and my laptop now showed full signal. The next test was streaming Netflix, and I was happy to see that movies started to play immediately — no more of the dreaded “buffering,” The DST adapter also gives you a physical network port you can plug into, and if your home is large you can install additional DST adapters to ensure that you have no more WiFi dead spots.

One important thing to note is that you must plug both the router and the DST adapter directly into a wall outlet not a powerstrip in order for the DST functionality to work properly.

Netgear Arlo

Keeping my family safe and home secure is extremely important. In fact my husband has talked about installing outdoor security cameras for a while, but the need to run wires through the attic was enough reason for him not to tackle the project. With the new Netgear Arlo Wireless Home Security Cameras, available in an exclusive 4-pack from Best Buy, we now have another option. Arlo is the only 100% wire-free, weatherproof, HD camera available. While it might sound too good to be true, after spending the past week testing the Arlo cameras, I am impressed.

The Arlo system setup was also quick and easy. The system includes a base station that I connected to my new Netgear Nighthawk DST router with the included ethernet cable and a power adapter. Then I installed four CR123 batteries (also included) into each of the 4 cameras and downloaded the free Arlo app from the Apple iTunes store. The app immediately detected my new Arlo system and walked me through creating an Arlo account and syncing the cameras to the Arlo base station.

After setting up the cameras we chose locations to install the cameras and used the included magnetic mounts to mount each camera using a single screw. Netgear includes six magnetic mounts and one adjustable camera mount so you have plenty of options to install the cameras. Since the cameras attach to the mount magnetically, you can easily move them around too.

An important distinction between Arlo and other security systems is that Arlo cameras are not meant to be watched or recorded 24/7, as they rely on batteries. But video quality is not compromised as the cameras record 720p HD video. You can view cameras at any time from your browser or the Arlo app. Each camera has a motion sensor that you can set to trigger an email or app alert, while ti saves a short recording (stored for up to a week). Motion triggers can be scheduled to only record at night if you wish. Netgear claims that the batteries in each camera should last 4-6 months with normal use, and I’m anxious to see if this claim holds true.

We installed our cameras overlooking the front door, the front walk, the pool and the garage, and each is set up to alert us to movement after dark. Providing me an extra sense of security in my home. (Who knows, maybe we will even catch some bears or deer on camera!)

There are no monthly fees associated with Arlo, unless you want to support more than 5 cameras and store videos for longer than 7 days.

Overall, I’m excited about our new Netgear connected home. Both the Netgear Nighthawk DST router with Geek Squad support ($299.99) and the Netgear Arlo Smart Home Indoor/Outdoor Wireless High-Definition Security Cameras 4-Pack ($499.99) are Best Buy exclusives available both in-store and online.
