My love for a good TV series (and movies) is well documented. I really like to watch TV, I can’t help but to be drawn into a good story. So it should come as no surprise that I am excited for the season premiere of a show I was recently introduced to called, “When Calls the Heart.”
The Hallmark Channel original series about a 19th century coal mining town is full of heart and strength in the face of adversity. Having recently caught up on season 1, I am excited for more of the story from When Calls The Heart Season 2 when it airs this weekend.
About When Calls The Heart
“When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coal mining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a turn of the century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.
Based on the bestselling book series by Janette Oke’s my favorite thing about When Calls The Heart are the characters. Although the town has faced great loss and many of the women have been left widowed, there are no damsels in distress in this town. Instead the women are strong and in each episode they seem to find new ways to prove themselves in the old west.
When Calls The Heart Season 2
Don’t miss the two-hour When Calls The Heart Season 2 premiere on Saturday, April 25 at 8/7c. Who will be watching with me?
I love stories where the woman are strong and not wimpy like in so many stories.
I love the book series, but I have not seen the show.
I love watching the Hallmark Channel more during the holidays when the have some great movies on. This looks like a great series to check out though, awesome it is based on a book series too.
I have never heard of this.
I really enjoy watching the Hallmark Channel although I have not watched this show. I do enjoy The Good Witch and have seen all of the movies and now watch the weekly show (that just ended for the season) . I will have to see if I can start this show from the beginning.
You can catch up on DVD! But I would start with the 1st episode of this season (since it is online right now). Then you can go back and watch season 1 🙂
