Away & Back Movie Review + A Family Vacation Sweepstakes

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hallmark Hall of Fame. All opinions are 100% mine.

A couple of weeks ago I shared how excited I was about the premiere of Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Away & Back on the Hallmark Channel. I am a sucker for a sappy movie with happy ending, and Away & Back looked like it would fit the bill. So, of course, I had to watch it!

Away & Back is a great movie about family and passion. I always think it is amazing when people find something at a young age that drives them in life, so I really enjoyed seeing Frankie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones) really become the protector of the swans. (Even if she is a bit precocious in doing so and doesn’t listen to dad.)

In the movie, Frankie’s dad Jack (Jason Lee) struggles with being a single dad and running a business. He is a good dad who supports his kids, but he doesn’t understand why the fact that swans that have taken up residence in the family’s pond are so important to the kids.

He doesn’t even understand how important until a tragic accident happens to one of the swans. It is then that the family meets know-it-all ornithologist Ginny Newsom (Minka Kelly), who doesn’t recognize her own passions in Frankie until long after she takes the swan eggs that Frankie rescued away from her.

Through Frankie’s continual insistence to seek out the swans Ginny’s heart begins to soften and she finds herself teaching and caring for Frankie and her family. Ultimately Frankie’s love for the swans helps unite Ginny and the family while teaching her dad that everyone (even wild animals) needs a little assistance sometimes.

Away & Back is a heartwarming family movie that will make you smile (and wish there was a swan living in your pond).

If you missed the premiere of the movie in January, you can still catch one of the encore performances of Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Away & Back this week.

  • Friday, February 13 at 6 pm EST

This looks like a movie that my fiance would really enjoy. This movie sounds a lot like many other Hallmark movies that are “feel-good” movies.

I’m usually not a huge fan of sappy love stories but I think I could give this movie a shot. I’m more excited about the sweepstake to win a trip.

This is an excellent family movie! I am saving it on my Wish List for a purchase in the near future. After watching it on the Hallmark Channel, I want to pick up a copy for our family to watch it again.
