Chocolate Peppermint Muddy Buddies

These Chocolate Peppermint Muddy Buddies are sponsored by Glad & M&M’S®.

Years ago my college roommate introduced me to a powdery-white snack her mom made. Until then I had never heard of chocolate and powdered sugar with Chex cereal. (Depending on where you live people call it Muddy Buddies, Puppy Chow, Chex Mix, etc.) At the time I had no idea it was a thing. But it was a delicious treat, and I was completely obsessed.

Fast forward a few years (ah-hem), and I still love the sweet mix of cereal and chocolate. This year, I decided to make my own version — Chocolate Peppermint Muddy Buddies. Most people make it with white chocolate, but this dark chocolate fan wanted to try something different. I wasn’t sure if it would be as pretty, but I think it is even prettier!

Chocolate Peppermint Muddy Buddies
I made my Chocolate Peppermint Muddy Buddies with dark chocolate (feel free to sub with milk or semi-sweet for personal preference). And I added my favorite Christmas flavor – peppermint! Crushed candy canes were a good start, but I wanted more peppermint (and chocolate). I had leftover White Chocolate Peppermint M&Ms from making M&M’s Black & White Peppermint Brownies so I decided to add those for color and flavor. I am so glad I did.

White Chocolate Peppermint M&Ms
White Chocolate Peppermint M&Ms are available at Target, and I found the M&M’s Black & White Peppermint Brownies on the back of the Holiday Edition Glad containers (also available at Target). Both are crazy good, and I know you won’t judge me when I say that I had one of the brownies for breakfast this morning, right?!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup crushed candy cane
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup White Chocolate Peppermint M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe dish on medium power for 1 minute, stir and continue melting at 30-second intervals until smooth.
  2. Mix in Chex cereal until well coated.
  3. Add powdered sugar and the chocolate-covered Chex in a plastic bag and shake well.
  4. Put contents in a bowl and mix in crushed candy cane and M&Ms.
  5. Serve and enjoy.

Since I know you will have leftover White Chocolate Peppermint M&Ms, you might as well make some M&M’s Black & White Peppermint Brownies while you are in the kitchen anyway…
