There are roughly 1 million things you need when you have a baby, and approximately a half million more that you don’t need but you want or have anyway. Those are rough numbers, of course, but when you are a mom staring at piles of stuff — it certainly feels accurate.
With all of that stuff, organization is a necessity to survival. (‘Cause you know you won’t be getting any sleep — at least if you are organized you will know where things are.) And one of the most important things to keep organized are diapering necessities that you need to have at arm’s length — at all times.
Every baby book and magazine you read will remind you of the utmost importance of having all of your diapering supplies together and close. You can’t leave baby alone for even a second on the changing table while you hunt down supplies. That’s why every mom (and dad) needs something to keep diapers, wipes, lotions, creams, hand sanitizer and even small toys close at hand and organized.
Thus the diaper caddy was born. Handy and efficient, it corrals all of your basic supplies in one tidy unity.
But what most magazines and books fail to mention is that in the early days you will often find yourself changing diapers everywhere — except the changing table. On mom and dad’s bed, on the couch, on the floor in the playroom while supervising big sister/brother. The changing table might not even get used until baby is several months old.
So, where do you keep the diaper caddy?
(I’ll give you a hint, it might not be the changing table.)
As part of the Playtex Baby Mom Trust, I discovered the Playtex Diaper Genie Diaper Smart Caddy, which converts from one large caddy into two smaller caddies allowing you to diaper necessities in two places at once! So now you can pick the two places you diaper most to set up a diapering station. (If you are like most moms I know, your bedroom is a safe place to start with one of the caddies.)
Designed to work as two separate caddies or combined to form one large caddy, Diaper Genie Diaper Smart Caddy is flexible and useful from day one.
Unlike my daughters giant size 5 diapers (pictured above), newborn diapers are tiny (gosh I miss the teeny tinies!). You can fit a lot of diapers in one caddy along with wipes, hand sanitizer, cream, lotion etc. Then when your babe gets big (like mine, sniff), you can combine the caddy and use one side for wipes and one side for diapers — still with plenty of room for everything.
It’s pretty smart, actually.
The two sections are held together by Velcro and also have hanging straps, if you are so inclined. Tip – as a mom of two girls, Velcro sticks to everything. While you are using them as separate caddies, I would cover the “sticky” side of the Velcro with a strip of felt.
As an added feature, the Playtex Diaper Genie Diaper Smart Caddy is also water resistant, which means it can be wiped clean.
The Playtex Diaper Genie Diaper Smart Caddy retails for $19.99 and is available from Target.
