Do you know how to get to Boston from Florida? First you drive your car, then you take the polka dot bus to the airport, then you get on a train, then you get on a plane and then you arrive in Boston. Did you know that?
According to my four year old, the polka dot bus (preferably the Go Gators polka dot bus) is an essential part of all air travel. And for our family, she’s right. With airport parking at MCO (that’s Orlando International) now officially costing two arms and a leg, parking at the airport is crazy expensive. That’s why we gave up parking there years ago.
I don’t remember when or why we started parking at The Parking Spot, but I know that it was long before my daughter was born and we have never parked anywhere else. It is close (I believe the closest lot to the airport in Orlando), clean, convenient and, perhaps most importantly, reasonably priced.
At MCO airport parking is $17 a day. At the MCO Parking Spot parking retails for $8.95 a day for open air or $11.95 a day for covered parking, plus you can nearly always find coupons to save even more. The Parking Spot regularly includes coupons in the ValPack and within in-flight magazines (like the one I found in the magazine on our latest trip). You can also visit the Parking Spot on Facebook and Twitter for printable coupons.
In addition to instant savings with coupons, the Parking Spot offers Spot Club, a parking rewards card that allows frequent flyers to earn free parking. We don’t fly often, but we have been pleasantly surprised at check out once or twice when the cashier has informed us we have free days to redeem.
With polka dot shuttles continuously running between the airport and The Parking Spot, we have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to be picked up at the airport and there is typically a bus waiting to take us to the airport. You should see how excited K gets when she realizes the Go Gators will be our transport!
One more perk to parking at the Parking Spot, upon leaving cashiers offer cold bottles of water to all of the vehicle passengers. An important and welcome bonus when you are greeted by Florida’s heat after a long trip.
So where do you park when you fly? If it isn’t the Parking Spot, you should totally check it out on your next trip. Perhaps you will even get to ride the Go Gators bus!
