“How many more days until I get to go back to school mommy?”
This question has already been asked about one hundred times since school let out in May, but now the real count down begins. There are two weeks left until school starts! To help my little student count down until the big day (without asking mom a million times) I decided to make a count down chain for her. Stealing the idea from the Christmas tradition, I decided a chain of colorful paper links would be the best way to count down the days.
As luck would have it, AstroBrights sent me a sampling of its colorful paper and a challenge to create a back-to-school project. A perfect fit for my little idea.
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Astrobrights Papers.
What’s great about this craft is that it’s simplicity makes it perfect for preschool and elementary students. With a bit of instruction my daughter (4 years old) was able to make virtually the whole thing by herself. (Hence the uneven edges on my star – she’s learning to cut with scissors, it is very exciting.)
Materials –
- AstroBrights papers
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pen
- Stapler
Instructions –
This craft is so easy, you probably don’t need instructions, but here you go anyway. Start by choosing a shape for the top of your chain. I choose a star, but next year when she heads off to Kindergarten I will totally use a school bus. Since I can’t draw a perfect star, I Googled a star image. This is where the Astrobrights paper really came in handy. Because it’s copy paper, I just ran it through my printer.
Next use your ruler to help your little one trace cut lines on the paper.
Then get out those safety scissors and cut!
Finally, staple your links together to form a chain, and display your countdown chain.
Easy peasy right? Plus now when she asks me when she goes back to school, I can just send her to count the links on her chain!
AstroBrights paper has two opportunities I want to share with you as well. The first is the “Make Something Astrobright” design challenge where all you crafty types can take on the week’s challenge and submit your creations for a chance to win a VISA gift card.
The second is the “Give a Brighter Year Sweepstakes” in which you can enter to win $30,000 in supplies for your school plus a $500 gift card for yourself too. Pretty cool, right?
Good luck to all of your students as they head back to school this fall, and I hope they enjoy making a Back to School Countdown craft!
What a great idea! That is so cute.
What a cute craft!
I have never thought about a countdown to back to school chain, fun! Their paper is so vivid, love it!
My oldest is counting down, too! He’ll start K this year and can’t wait!
We actually have a paper chain up right now- my son’s too young for school BUT his birthday is in 11 days so he has one for that! He loves it so much & I love the idea of using it for back to school when he’s old enough!
Really cute, but I am sad to say that the countdown has started. I do not want to go back!!
Cute! Love the bright colors!
