I don’t mean to brag but… I spent a week a the beach!!! Waa hoo! It. Was. Awesome. We went to the beach to celebrate the 4th of July with the family, and while a vacation with two kids is as much work as it is vacay it was a great week. Although I was busy chasing two kids, I did adhere to one basic rule at the beach — there is no cooking at the beach. Oh sure, we have to eat. So there is some minor cooking. But no slaving over a stove. Takeout, potluck, dinner out and frozen pizza – that’s how we roll at the beach. In my family, the 4th of July is a big family reunion. The annual tradition is for family to gather at the beach house for a day of beach fun, lots of food, family time, more food and fireworks! It’s the biggest party of the year for our family. Just look at all of those silly faces!
After all of the family chaos of the 4th, July 5 is low key. It’s a day of rest for those who remain, a day to relax on the beach. Luckily, I planned ahead. I knew we wouldn’t feel like leaving the beach, so I planned a special pizza and ice cream party for the family. Tombstone Pizza and Nestle Drumsticks. The perfect way to cap off a lazy beach day. When I bought the pizza I debated — traditional or double pepperoni. I ended up buying the double pepperoni and let me tell you, it was worth every extra penny. So much yummy pepperoni, I highly recommend springing for the extra goodness. It was soooo worth it.
Of course dinner at the beach (with kids) means you gotta eat on fishy plates 🙂
Before dinner, K and I celebrated the beach with a beachy craft. A little paint, a few shells and ta-da gifts for everyone – painted beach shells. Since we also have a lot of baby food jars around these days, we also painted the lids of jars to fill with some of the many shells she collected at the beach.
After dinner and a few touches to her painted shells, it was time for a relaxing desert. Drumsticks in the hammock. Now that’s life at the beach.
In case you were wondering how the chocolate Drumsticks I had to have (from my previous post and shopping trip) where… They were delish!
Hope you had as a relaxing and tasty 4th of July week as I did! If not, there’s still a lot of summer left to host your own pizza and ice cream party at the beach.
