More than ten years ago when we were in the process of building our house there were only three finish options available for appliances: black, white and the “premium” stainless steel option. While my husband and I loved the way our new kitchen looked with our new matching stainless steel appliances, we quickly learned the major down side of stainless steel — fingerprints. Stainless steel appliances are almost impossible to keep looking clean, picking up every single smudge. Two kids later, we are pretty much guaranteed to have finger, face and who-knows-what smudges from about three feet down on all of our appliances.
Looking forward to a time hopefully not too distant in the future when we get to redo our kitchen with new cabinets, counter tops and appliances, I’m excited by all of the new options available. When it comes to picking a finish, I love the unique look of the new GE appliances with the slate finish. This new finish option blends much more seamlessly than stainless steel, and has been engineered with durability in mind, resisting fingerprints, providing an easy to clean surface. And is magnetic too (we had no idea our stainless steel fridge would not be magnetic).
While a full-kitchen remodel may be further down the road, a new dishwasher is a more immediate purchase for us. I definitely plan on checking out GE’s latest model with a third rack (a feature my husband claims is a must-have with a new dishwasher) as we find ourselves running ours nearly every night for our family of four. (How do we make so many dirty dishes?!?!)
