The Journey Home is going to make you say, “Awe!” Actually, it is going to make you say, “Awe” over and over again. I lost count at the number of times I said it during the trailer. A boy who befriends a polar bear cup, I mean what could be cuter? I mean really.

The Journey Home is a heartwarming tale of a boy and his need to reunite a polar bear cub with his mother — all the way across a frozen land, all by himself. It’s a movie for families and a movie for animal lovers. 

When I was a girl I rescued a couple of helpless babies, but the babies I rescued were much smaller — I rescued a pair of baby squirrels. (Oh, and I had my mom’s permission.) Those little squirrels actually became beloved members of our family for several months as we bottle fed them until their were old enough to be returned to the wild (our backyard). 

It was an incredible experience to raise those baby squirrels. But this Florida girl can’t imagine ever being brave enough to face the frozen tundra alone.

When Luke Mercier (Dakota Goyo, Real Steel) heard some noise outside his house, he never could have guessed what he would find.  Discovering a young polar bear cub that has been separated from its mother, Luke knows he has to do something to help. Despite the warnings of his family and friends, Luke speeds off on a snowmobile, with the cub in tow, deep into the frozen wilderness. But when a violent storm closes in, Luke’s mother (Bridget Moynahan, “Blue Bloods”) and family friend Muktuk (Goran Visnjic, “ER”) frantically search for the daring pair as they defy starvation and below freezing temperatures so both boy and bear can complete their own journeys home.

My family is always on the search of our next Friday night movie, and The Journey Home looks like it has all the qualities my family looks for in a movie.
