5 Ways To Save On Summer Fun

tsm 2

Summer is nearly upon us. In fact, around here school gets out next week! With summer on the horizon it is time to start thinking about how to entertain the kiddos – all. summer. long. My girls will be in camps a couple of weeks this summer, but the rest of the summer — I am all about ways to save on summer fun!

Here are a few plans I have for my kiddos this summer to keep everyone entertained without shelling out a lot of money!

5 Ways To Save On Summer Fun

$1 Kids Movies – Movies are a great way to beat the summer heat, and during the day some theaters run $1 movie programs. The kid-friendly movies aren’t the newest releases, but the kids don’t care. And you can’t beat two hours of cool, quite for $1 a person.

  • Regal $1 movies
  • Cinemark $ movies (plus a coupon for $1 snacks!)

Free Activities for Kids – During the summer there are actually tons of things you can do with your kids for free. No, I don’t just mean riding bikes and playing outside. I mean activities and places you can go and do with your kids for free. This year save on summer fun and take your kids to enjoy free bowling, free skating, free craft projects, free computer camp and so much more! Here are 15 Free Summer Activities For Kids.

Free Summer Reading Incentives – Do you have a bookworm like I do? I have a feeling we will spend a lot of time at the library this summer stocking up on good reads. My daughter loves to read, and I want to keep encouraging the habit so this summer I am going to introduce her to summer reading programs. There are all kinds of summer reading programs where she can earn rewards like free books, movie admission, prizes and even cash. Here are 15 Summer Reading Programs.

Ordinary Into Extraordinary – My kids love to make craft projects, but supplies get expensive. To save on summer crafts, we turn ordinary household items into craft projects and play things. Turn ordinary dish sponges into Sponge Balls, make homemade sidewalk chalk paint with corn starch powder and you can make all sorts of things with a little washable paint and Popsicle Sticks.

Dessert Before Dinner – When all else fails, there is nothing more fun than dessert before dinner! It is such great a summer treat because on a hot summer a Popsicle tastes even better before dinner. Plus, my mom tip for this treat is to put kids in their bathing suits first and then hose them down when they are down. Clean kids before dinner! It’s summer fun and a mom win.

Popsicle Before Dinner
This summer can save on frozen treats at Winn-Dixie. Throughout summer you can treat your family to Popsicles before dinner for less. You will find Popsicles and other frozen ice cream treats on sale at Winn Dixie May 20 – June 2, June 24 – July 7 and July 29 – August 11.

During those weeks stock up on Popsicle, Good Humor and Fruttare treats for the kids on sale 2 for $6.

WinnDixie Summer Ice Cream Sale
You can also save on summer favorites for mom and dad like Klondike, Ben & Jerry’s and Magnum on sale 2 for $7.

As an added bonus, buy any 2 Klondike and/or Ben and Jerry’s and get .05 in Fuelperks to help you save on summer gas.

we head to the museums and botanical gardens on the free days as well as see movies in the park (there is no charge). We are also on several lists to see movies before they come out and there is no charge.

Some good tips. When my girls were little we had one day – always a surprise- during the summer where it was banana split or sundae dinner – that’s it, no “real” food. They talked about it forever, and now my daughter does it with my grandsons. One of those traditions that will keep going on and on, and since we made our own, no real extra expense. 🙂
