Family Halloween Costume Ideas

Who says Halloween is just for kids? Not me! Halloween is fun for the whole family, especially when you come up with family Halloween costume ideas. It’s fun to play dress up as a whole family.

I love homemade costumes, but after years of making our costumes this year I was tired. Plus with an October birthday for Sissy I am busy planning the perfect birthday party. About the time I made that decision not to make costumes this year the Chasing Fireflies catalog arrived in my mailbox. My girls poured over the costumes, ohhing and ahhhing at every page.

After much family debate, it was decided that we would be mermaids and dad our handsome Prince Eric curtsey of Chasing Fireflies! (Yes, even a Disney reference for non-Disney costumes!)

My family of royal mermaids.

If you are familiar with Chasing Fireflies, then you know the costumes are ah-mazing. Every detail is considered. So if I was going to give up on handmade, at least I was going to go with the best!

The decision-making process was long. Each of my girls had their own idea of the perfect costume from Chasing Fireflies. K wanted to be a Candy Princess, Sissy wanted to be Jessie from Toy Story, I wanted us to be witches.

Ultimately, the sequined mermaid princess costumes won. It really couldn’t be more perfect – K’s favorite color is pink and Sissy’s green!

And Daddy is our handsome prince. (What a good Daddy!!!)

Fit for a princess the fairytale mermaid costumes are sparkly and elegant. It is everything my little girl (who growing up too fast) could dream of.

Of course, dress up is also a time for silliness. Sissy didn’t want to stop twirling, giggling and playing with her wand. A sure sign she too loves her costume.

Girls Mermaid Costume Green
On the chilly morning we snapped photos, everyone was glad to have the flowing capes. Since we never know if we will have a hot or cold Halloween, the capes are the perfect layer for an evening chill. And if it is hot, our mermaids will still be perfect princesses!

It’s fun to dress up like a princess, and it is even more fun to dress up when you don’t have to slave over the details.

Now that they have their costumes, Halloween can’t come soon enough.
