Like most parents, we try to make sure we feed our girls well-balanced, nutritional meals. And while we are successful most days, there are other days that we fall short. Between busy schedules and kids who regularly change their mind about what they will and won’t eat, getting the perfect “My Plate” balanced meals all of the time is nearly impossible.
While I continue to strive for fruits and veggies, whole grains and dairy, I am also a realist. Our diets aren’t perfect. So to help make sure my girls get all of the vitamins they need to grow up “big and strong” – that’s what we say it in our house – everyone takes a multi-vitamin. I take one, my husband takes one and my daughter takes one — it’s part of our routine.
I started K on vitamins as a baby at her doctor’s recommendation when we discovered she was anemic. She’s grown out of the anemia, thank goodness, but it started us on the path of her taking a daily vitamin.
Remembering to take a daily vitamin has to become a habit or it will get forgotten. We decided that building a habit of taking a multi-vitamin was a good thing to pass on to our girls. So since the age of two, K has taken a daily, multi-vitamin. Her vitamin of choice are gummy vitamins. In her eyes, breakfast isn’t complete without her gummies and juice.
We have tried a number of different brands of vitamins over the years, generally whatever mom can find on sale at the time and very often of the Princess variety. When I changed up our current bottle of gummy vitamins for L’il Critters Gummy Vites, K was quick to notice the new shape and taste. But it wasn’t a bad thing, she though the bears were cute and she liked the taste of the new vitamins even more. “They are more fruity, especially the red ones,” she told me.
With gummy vitamins, we have no problem getting K to take her vitamins daily. Building another healthy habit for life and helping her get all of the vitamins and nutrients she needs for her growing body now. Little sister will be two in a few months (the recommended age for Gummy Vites), and like her big sis she too will start taking a daily gummy.
In case you are wondering, yes, they really do taste good. I have even skipped my giant multi-vitamin a few times in favor of taking a L’il Critters Gummy Vites. It’s a much more fun way to take vitamins!
