Walk Out On Wednesdays With Omron Activity Tracker

My big goal for this year is to get in better shape so that I can run/walk the Disney Princess Family 5K with my little princess next winter. It is a lofty goal for someone who spends most of the day behind the computer or driving her daughters around town. And honestly, even though it is something I really want to do — I have already been putting it off.

Running scares me.

As I put off running on yet another morning, it occurred to me that like anything else I have to start somewhere. All of the excuses and procrastination won’t get me to my goal, nor will it do anything for my self-esteem. In my mind, getting started meant running for 15 minutes. But what about walking for 30 minutes instead? I really think I could do that, especially with my favorite little motivators.

Walk out on Wednesdays

Challenged by Omron Wellness, makers of the Alvita activity tracker, I’ve been asked to inspire others to “Walk out on Wednesdays” while taking on the challenge myself too. It is so easy for moms to make excuses about why we don’t get up and move; there are chores to do, work to be done, kids to care for, meals to make — the list goes on and on. But there are so many reasons we should walk and get healthy, if for no other reason than so we can do all of those mom things!

To keep yourself accountable, and to make walking more fun, the “Walk out on Wednesdays” challenge encourages you to walk with a friend. By enlisting the help of my kiddos, I know they will nag me until we walk.

I have updated my training mindset. I am going to start by getting out to walk, and maybe in a few months I will be ready to run. Now the challenge is to get out and walk with a friend at least one Wednesday a month, but I need consistency so my personal goal will be every Wednesday for 30 minutes. That sounds doable, right?

And since these two munchkins LOVE to go for walks, I know they will be a great motivating factor. Of course, no walk is complete without a visit to run up the hill! (And yes, I ran up the hill too!)

Wednesday number one, 35 minutes and 1.5 miles.

I am looking at the Walk out on Wednesdays challenge as a way to get started toward being more healthy. Will you join me to Walk out on Wednesdays?
