Exclusive black-ish Set Tour

I wasn’t expecting to walk onto the set of black-ish and start taking notes about how to redesign my house, but that is exactly what I did. The black-ish set is GORGEOUS! Seriously, if it wasn’t for the missing roof and excess lights hanging down, I would live in this “house.” Thanks to Disney for inviting to tour the black-ish set and meet the cast.

It’s a little breezy up there.

Of course, the fact that it was immaculately clean made it even more appealing, but that’s another story.

Actually, I really liked seeing the twins’ room because it felt so real. While the room was tidy, there were hints of kids living in the space like an unattended juice box left on the bookcase. (BTW – I love the design concept for the twin’s room with each side decorated very differently, but still complementary.)

After watching black-ish, it was interesting to walk through the set and to see all of the rooms in real life. Surprisingly, the set felt bigger than what it appears on TV.

Walking through the hallways I was surprised how wide and open everything was. It is designed that way for filming, but thanks to TV magic everything looks cozier on screen.

Something interesting thing we learned from the set visit is that the staircase in the front hall leads to nowhere. The “second” floor of the Johnson’s house is actually a separate set – on the same level.

Remember I mentioned taking notes for my house? My absolute favorite feature in the house was the recessed bookcases. LOVE this recessed bookcase. I know exactly where I would love to put one in my house.

The wow moment of the tour, however, was found the master bedroom. Beautiful in its own right, the master closet was ah-mazing. The storage, oh the storage.

black-ish Dre Rainbow Closet
And then I noticed something interesting.

Here are Dre’s shoes.

Rainbow’s shoes on the other hand, were only three pairs wide. Next to her vanity, that’s it.

Ummm…. In my house, I would totally need that wall for my shoes! While I am not that surprised by the size of Dre’s extensive shoe collection, I was shocked by Rainbow’s. Even I have that girl beat.

Watch black-ish Wednesdays on ABC at 9:30 pm EST.

black-ish is a bold new comedy that takes a multi-generational look at contemporary family issues. Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson (Anthony Anderson) has a great job, a beautiful wife, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), four kids and a colonial home in the ‘burbs. But has success brought too much assimilation for this black family? With a little help from his dad (Laurence Fishburne), Dre sets out to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family that honors their past while embracing the future. black-ish stars Anthony Anderson as Dre, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow, Yara Shahidi as Zoey, Marcus Scribner as Andre Jr., Miles Brown as Jack, Marsai Martin as Diane and Laurence Fishburne as Pops.

    • As far as I know everything was built by the set crew. They are AMAZING though right? I want them (and the built in bookcases) in my house!!!

  1. I have looked several sites trying to find the 2 ottomans in the center of the master closet. Where could I find them? Thanks

    • I wish I had an answer for you, I have no idea where they got any of the furniture. It is also possible they made it to fit exactly what they wanted.

  2. I have been looking everywhere for the orange colored curtains in their family room. By chance did you hear someone mention that color? The closest I can guess is a light melon, but can’t find that fabric anywhere!! 😩
