Working from home has a lot of perks, but it does have its downsides too. One of the pitfalls of working from home is that I sit 20 feet from the pantry. Which means when I get the munchies — watch out. This girl has a sweet tooth, and I have been known to raid the pantry for sweets multiple times a day.
I have a new, healthier, alternative to my snacking challenges — a Chocolate Covered Strawberries Kefir Power Smoothie.
When I am out and about, I often stop for smoothies. They are a great way to curb that sweet tooth with good-for-you fruit instead of just chocolate. While I often buy yogurt-bases smoothies for the added protein, I never make them at home. When we make smoothies at home it is typically straight fruit. Yummy, but not so filling.
At Winn Dixie I recently discovered
Lifeway Kefir Lowfat Cultured Milk 32oz Smoothies. They come in various flavors including strawberry, blueberry, etc., so you could drink them as a standalone smoothie. But the plain version sounded like the perfect base for a homemade smoothie.
So as part of an attempt to curb the unnecessary sweet snacks, I created an easy smoothie with a little bit of sweet and a lot of goodness.
Back at home I gathered the ingredients of my sweet tooth’s dream to create a
Chocolate Covered Strawberries Power Smoothie!
- 1 cup Lifeway Kefir (Kefir coupons!)
- 2 cups of frozen strawberries
- A drizzle of chocolate syrup
- A sprinkle of chocolate chips (optional)
- 1/2 a banana
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- 1 cup of spinach
As soon as that blender started up, I had plenty of taste tester volunteers, especially when they noticed the chocolate. Everyone agreed, this might be the best smoothie mom has ever made. Then I told them it had spinach in it (cue looks of amazement). My non-spinach eating kids didn’t believe it until I pointed out the green flecks. Even then, they happily sipped — despite the “green stuff.”
A new way to get me kids to eat leafy greens — double score!
I was so pleased with how my smoothie turned out. All of the flavors I love blended together with lots of goodness like protein, iron, probiotics and more!
Now this is the way to tackle an afternoon sweet tooth while I work just feet away from the pantry — and the fridge! Yum yum!
