No-Bake Halloween Owl Cupcakes

I am slightly obsessed with owls these days, ever since decorating my baby’s nursery in owl theme. So when planning my annual Halloween party, I decided that I had to have owl cupcakes. Here’s the thing, I don’t bake. (It’s just not pretty.) So I knew I would need a shortcut. My first thought was Hostess Cupcakes!

This is a sponsored post.

I had everything planned out perfectly for the party, but don’t you know that when I headed off to the store in search of Hostess Cupcakes (you know, the ones with the white swirl down the middle) the store was out. There was a spot for them, but someone had cleaned them out. Grrrr! So I settled on the next best thing – Ding Dongs!

I am pleased to announce, the result is purely adorable. See for yourself!

Want to make these yourself? They are so easy, here’s what you need.

  • Hostess Cakes
  • Oreos
  • M&Ms (brown)
  • Candy Corn
  • Icing

Then simply half your Oreos, use the icing as glue and ensemble. That’s my kind of dessert.

So, what did my partygoers think of my Halloween Owl Cupcakes?! They were a hit! I was assured that they were as tasty as they were cute. And you know what, I agree – they were yum!

If you are planning a Halloween party, or perhaps just an owl party, I highly recommend adding this simple treat to your menu. They make quite an impact on a desert table plus they are easy and quick, which is the name of the game.

Happy Halloween!

  2. My favorite Hostess cake memory was actually peeling off the chocolate frosting layer from the cupcakes and eating that by itself. Then it was on to the cupcake!

  3. I remember that when I was a kid if I was not having a good day my mom would have my favorite treat when I got home- A Twinkie! I love the creamy filling and the yellow cake outside. It seemed to make me feel so much better!

  4. We didn’t get to eat these very often, but when we did, only a golden twinkie would do. Nothing like a summer day, a picnic outside, and a twinkie to end it all. So much fun!

  8. In grade school sometimes my mother would put a HO HO in the lunch. We would peel off the chocolate icing and then put the broken up icing in with the cream after we had unrolled it and then roll it back up and eat it.

  10. Back in high school we actually had a hostess cake food fight! Twinkies and ding dongs EVERYWHERE — that cream filling is NOT easy to get out of overhairsprayed hair!

  12. Sno Balls were (and still are!) my favorite. I’d slowly take off the coconut fluff covering, eat the chocolate cake from the bottom, scoop out the cream, then eat the rest of the chocolate cake. When that was all done I’d wad the coconut fluff into a ball and take big bites from it. I can still feel that squishy sensation in my mouth! lol

  17. I don’t have a memory because mom didn’t buy Hostess. But there is one memory when my son was in school and he had to make a cell. He’s very creative and decided he wanted to make it edible! So he sunk every cell part into clear gelatin. The Hostess Twinkie gave him a fit because it wanted to float.

  20. I remember loving them as a kid. They were more expensive than other brands, so we didn’t get them too much. But when we did get them they always went FAST, lol. jenniferpeaslee at gmail dot com

  21. My favorite memory is in my mid twenties I once stayed to do a double shift at the hospital I worked at. I was off the next day, so I stopped at a convenience store and bought myself a package of ding dongs. I realized I had no beer at home so I also grabbed a 6pack. The look the cashier gave me when he commented on my “healthy breakfast” still makes me laugh.

  24. My husband knew how much I loved Twinkies and on a Valentine’s Day he gave me one with a big paper Valentine heart on the top. I went to break it in half to share with him and there inside was a diamond ring. I loved the way he proposed to me with my favorite sweet treat!
