S’mores Create the Happiest (and Stickiest) Campers ~ Yummy Giveaway

K has been really into making forts this summer. After setting one up, it is very common for it to quickly be filled with toys and all of her stuffed “friends.” And, of course, it has to be big enough for mommy to get in with her to play. On a recent rainy summer afternoon, I decided to make it like a real camping trip with S’mores.

As soon as I busted out the marshmallows, K wanted to know if we were going to the Ranch to make marshmallows. Apparently, she remembered going to my Aunt’s ranch last year and roasting marshmallows. After assuring her we would do that again soon, I explained that we were making a different special treat. Of course, K insisted that we wear our aprons. So my wanna be chef and I made S’mores.

Hershey's S'mores

After making our treat (in the microwave), we headed off to eat the gooey goodness in our fort.

Our fort

Here are K’s impressions of her first S’mores. (Sorry for the poor video quality, there are no overhead lights inside our fort!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5fAk2n101s

As you can see, K’s initial reaction was positive – who wouldn’t love marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. But after eating a few more bites, my neat girl came out. She suddenly noticed how messy she was and that she had gotten chocolate on her apron and her blanket (that I laid on the floor to protect the carpet), and she was not a happier camper. My poor girl takes after her mommy and does not like to get dirty! I quickly got her all cleaned up, and she announced that she did not want to make “those” again. As much as she liked the taste, it was far too messy for her. (In fact, she just watched the video with me again, and she affirmed her dislike for the mess.)

I think next time I will have to make bite-sized pieces for her so it isn’t as messy. Oh well, pregnant mom loved her S’mores!

I too make microwave Smores. I have put chocolate chips on the Graham Crackers and microwaved for a little bit before adding the big marshmallow. This year I got smart and made a whole bunch in the oven on a cookie sheet. I have 7 kids so that way is much faster and the marshmallows get golden brown just like camping.
