First Trip To The Dentist

I am so proud of my little girl. I anticipated this the first dentist visit to be well… a nightmare! But she did SOOOO well! Even though it was her first visit, since I waited until after 3 to take her she actually got the full treatment. This wasn’t just a let’s count your teeth deal, this was a full cleaning!

My daughter (much like myself) needs time to prepare for new things (I have learned from experience). So after booking the appointment, I gave her a special book to help her get ready — The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist. She loved the book, and it soon became one of her favorite picks to read. I HIGHLY recommend this book to get your kiddo ready to visit the dentist. It describes all of the dentists tools and totally reassured K that the dentist was no big deal.

Of course, the appointment wasn’t without a few tears…

But all in all, it was a great appointment.

Thanks to Dr. David Donald and his wonderful staff for making the appointment easy, quick and even a little fun (K got not 1 but 2 treasures from the treasure box!). If you live in the area, I HIGHLY recommend Children’s Dentistry of Longwood for your kids too! (FYI – David is my neighbor and friend, but that doesn’t mean it the recommendation isn’t valid. I trust my kiddo’s teeth to him!)

One AWESOME thing to point out about Children’s Dentistry of Longwood is that it is one of only two practices in town that lets parents back with the kiddos. I can’t imagine K going through this process without Mommy & Daddy holding her hand — how traumatizing!

Thanks for the recommendation. Glad to hear she did well. I have dental phobia and I do NOT want to put the fear of God into my child. I will definitely check into this practice, I know I’d feel better going back w/ him for his visit!

We did our first dentist visits in December and I too was nervous but they all handled it well. I am glad you were able to find a place that lets the parents in with their kids. No way in hell would I let my kids out of my sight!

This is a great a blog!!! As a mother I understand the importance of alleviating your childrens fears before going to see the dentist. Many people develop a phobia for the dentist at a very young age and this could really impact the way the take care of their teeth later. I believe it is very important to try to make a child’s visit to the dentist as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

I’m glad she did so well. I can’t imagine taking my child to the dentist and not going back with them. That never even crossed my mind, but I’ll have to make sure from now on. Love the idea of using a book to prepare her!
