AnyBook Reader (It Really Works) + Giveaway

Gadgets are nothing new around this house. My husband always has the latest and greatest whatever, but of all the fancy gadgets THIS thing impresses me. The AnyBook Reader is just plain cool. It’s easy to use, lots of fun and such a GREAT idea! Bonus, my daughter loved it.

Alright so what is it? The AnyBook Readers gives your child the ability to hear you read their favorite book to them any time, by themselves even if you aren’t around. It’s a combination of a “Tag” book and a recordable story book. However, instead of being limited to the books available with these features, the AnyBook Reader gives you the flexibility to use it with ANY book.

Since I am not the gadget guru in my house, I intended for my husband to figure this thing out and get it going… But we’ve been so busy he hasn’t gotten to it. So I put on my thinking cap, opened the box and dove it. It was easy! A little confusing at first when you first when you read through the instructions, but once you start going it’s easy-peasy. I choose one of my daughter’s current favorite books, “If You Give a Pig a Party” to test out the AnyBook Reader.

To record your story, you touch the recorder to a recordable sticker and read the story. Each page receives its own sticker, so that as your child turns the pages in the book they touch the reader to the sticker on the page and hear you reading the next part of the story. It took me about half an hour to record the book, but the next book I record will go MUCH faster. As you record your story, if you mess up (or the phone rings, dog barks, etc), you can delete your recording and record over it. My tip to you – apply the stickers to the pages, and then record the story. I recorded the story on the sticker sheet and then had to apply them and I got all confused.

Alright, so I had my recorded story that I was quite pleased with, but it was time to put it to the test. When my daughter woke up from her nap, I plopped her in her reading chair and showed her how to “read” the story. She read it though 3 times in a row. And even though she skipped a page or two here and there, she got the hang of looking for the stickers and following along. Here she is part way through the second read through the book.

Success. I foresee many more book recordings.

The recorder holds up to 60 hours of talk time on it, and you can record over old messages. The manufacturer says that the “stickers use special glue that won’t damage your book so you can remove and re-use the stickers at any time. Select your favorite sticker designs to personalize your recordings.” That means that I can record her current favs, and then new favs as she moves on. Love it!
