SheKnows asked TheSurbubanMom

Posted by 2 November, 2010 (0) Comment

I was recently interviewed by a reporter from SheKnows Parenting about my opinion on owning your child’s domain and/or Twitter. Of course, I chuckled at the question since we own both already for our daughter. Even before she was born we got her domain name, and we also have her gmail account. So I was the perfect person to ask. While I don’t go so far as tweating for my daughter like Tori Spelling (see the article), I know that when she is ready for it her name is hers. Even my sister-in-law shares my name, so I wanted to make sure she gets first dibs on hers.

TheSuburbanMom’s 1st Birthday!

Posted by 2 August, 2010 (5) Comment

One year ago I had an idea. Apparently, I had a good idea because a year later I am still going strong and more and more people are following my blog. It’s TheSuburbanMom’s birthday, but I have to thank everyone who reads this blog for making it what it is. Every person who subscribes, comments, follows on Facebook and/or Twitter and even everyone who reads just one post encourages me to do more!

I wrote my first post on July 27, 2010 and since then I have written 740 posts (741 including this post). Nearly 7,500 people read nearly 19,000 pages on TheSuburbanMom monthly. Over the weekend I surpassed 1,000 Twitter followers, and on Facebook my “likers” are nearly 750 strong. Plus I now have a bestselling book! Wheew! Much love to you all!

This has been a fun year, and I am so excited to look toward the future. In addition to a new look for the site (coming soon!), lots more giveaways, deals galore, reviews and more DIY projects I have much more planned up my sleeve. This is only the beginning!

To celebrate TheSuburbanMom’s readers on its birthday this week I will be giving away Jewelry and product from my favorite place to shop for memories. PLUS – there are three wonderful giveaways ending this week – Sweet Sienna Designs, Zebra Back to School Pack & my book Power Principles for Success. And chocolate loves, don’t miss the Chocomize giveaway ending next week!

Please keep telling your friends about TheSuburbanMom and sharing your thoughts with me via comments or FB. Every time someone reaches out, I am spurred on that much more to keep going. Thanks for all of your support, and here’s to the second year of TheSuburbanMom.

About Jennifer Burg, TheSuburbanMom:

TheSuburbanMom is the journey of one mom’s life in suburbia. After the birth of her daughter in 2008, Jennifer found herself in a place that was familiar to moms around the country but new to her – she had become a stay-at-home mom. While she loved her time with her daughter and found friendship in other local moms, Jennifer’s type-A personality needed an outlet. Since her new world revolved around her daughter, she sought an outlet that would include her daughter and her “new” life as a mom. In one short weekend, TheSuburbanMom was born.

“So, who is TheSuburbanMom? I’m a SAHM, I’m a WAHM, I’m a WOHM. I’m frugal, I’m green, I’m a toy-picking-up machine. I’m a woman, I’m a wife, I’m a Modern Momma. If you are all of those things and more, YOU are a SuburbanMom”*

In her previous life – pre-kids (PK) – Jennifer was a magazine editor, a human resources director, a consultant and a writer. Today, she uses the skills she learned in those positions to serve her clients as a freelance writer and editor and as TheSuburbanMom. A graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Journalism, GO GATORS, Jennifer considers it a privilege and a challenge to balance working from home with caring for a busy toddler. Jennifer lives in the suburbs of Orlando, Florida with her husband, Bobby; their daughter, Kendal; and their yorkies, Bear and Bella.
