She is brave, fierce, opinionated, beautiful and now she is officially a Disney Princess.
On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Disney welcomed its newest princess into the Royal Court. Arriving on horseback, Merida led a parade of followers clad in kilts waving banners and playing the bagpipes. It was the perfect Scottish entrance for Disney’s newest princess.
It was a lovely ceremony held in front of Cinderella’s castle at the Magic Kingdom. Taking place Mother’s Day weekend, the coronation was presided over by the equally fierce Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas and her mother Natalie Hawkins. (I loved the symmetry of Douglas and Merida’s inner strength.)
Appropriately Princess Merida was officially crowned Disney’s 11th princess by her mother Queen Elinor. Equally appropriate, following the crowning Elinor presented her daughter with her signature accessory, her bow.
Surrounded by the other 10 princesses who make up Disney’s Royal Court, those in attendance had the rare opportunity to see all 11 princesses together.
The Royal Court Princesses in order of induction into the Royal Court are Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida.
Showing off her new wig (gifted to her by the lovely Nicole from SAHM Reviews) and Princess Ears, my own princess was beside herself with excitement to see all of the princesses together. At the end of the ceremony she had just one question, “Mom, when will Sofia have her ceremony? She is a Disney princess too.” Good question K, good question.
Congratulations Merida! You have now carved your own legacy in Disney’s Royal Court.

I was invited to attend Merida’s Royal Celebration as a member of the local media, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
