When a friend posted photos of this project on Facebook, I knew I had to share her creation. Here is Mel & Mac’s DIY Upcycled Headband Hairbow Holder Tutorial. (Thanks girls!)
My six year old has more headbands than she needs. After her recent birthday, her collection exploded. We needed functional storage – stat. With a little Pinsperation, we crafted a simple (and cute) storage solution.
Upcycled Headband Holder Craft
This simple project mommy and daughter project took about 10 minutes to complete. The best part is that hidden inside the headband holder is more storage for ribbons, clips, bows and hair ties. Add this to the “why didn’t I think of this sooner” category. Everyone wins – Mom gets everything organized in one spot and my daughter gets a new decoration for her bedroom.
Supplies Needed:
- Empty Oatmeal Container
- Scrapbook Paper
- Scissors
- Double-Sided Tape or Mod Podge
- Self-Adhesive Rhinestones
While I adhered the scrapbook paper to the oatmeal container with double-sided tape, another option that might be a bit more durable in the long run is to Mod Podge the paper onto the container. To do so, paint a thing layer of Mod Podge on the container, roll your paper onto the container (smoothing out any air bubbles). The apply an additional layer of Mod Podge on top. This will seal the paper and prevent it from tearing easily. I like the Mod Podge Gloss because it gives it a little shine, but you can also try the Matte finish.
Finally we added a little bling (a girl’s gotta have some, right) with self-adhesive rhinestones around the lid.
So cute, I have to make this.
I like the idea for the headbands but am not sure if I’d want to dig around inside looking for a particular bow. This is probably a better idea for my teen and tween. =) Thank you for sharing!
Great work Jen. The efforts seem to have paid off really well. Not just with organising the headbands but the creativity too!
