I am sure I am not the only one who has people on my Christmas list that I never know what to buy. Every year it is the same people, I search high and low for the perfect present. Last year I looked and looked, and just when I was about to give up and go with something totally lame I stopped by my favorite local boutique, Walk on Water. When I walked in the door, there it was — the perfect gift. I was relieved to find it, and to support a small business the same time.
Saturday I’ll be back at Walk on Water to shop small as part of Small Business Saturday. There’s no telling what I will find, but fingers crossed that I will be able to check a couple of people off my shopping list. That’s one of my favorite things about shopping at Walk on Water and other small boutiques, they rotate merchandise frequently and there are always great gift ideas. If I am not careful, I might even walk out of there with a few gifts for myself!
In addition to surprising me with things I didn’t even know I needed, Walk on Water also sells Pandora. Sure there are a ton of places in town that sell Pandora, but when it comes to filling my bracelet this is where I send my husband to shop. If he’s gonna buy the gift either way, I’d rather it be from this local boutique.
We will be shopping together as a family on Small Business Saturday. While my girls won’t really “get” the concept, I want to set the example of supporting small local businesses from an early age.
Before heading out to go shopping, we will most likely visit our favorite local breakfast place for brunch. And if the girls are good at the store, we might even treat them to ice cream and make a whole small business day out of it.
