Sharing A Meal & Tyson Breakfast Bread Bowls

Tyson, that same great name in the frozen chicken world recently added a breakfast product to its frozen lineup (no chicken involved). Last week a box of Tyson Breakfast Bread Bowls arrived at my door in a giant styrofoam cooler. After taste testing the breakfast bowls for ourselves, I was tasked with donating some of the bowls.

My task was assigned to highlight Tyson’s KNOW Hunger campaign:

In an effort to help raise awareness of hunger in the United States, Tyson Foods initiated the KNOW Hunger campaign in early 2011. The project is designed to encourage people to KNOW the scope of hunger in their own communities and get involved in relief efforts, so someday there will be NO hunger in our country.

At first, I planned to donate my bowls to a food bank or children’s organization. But donating frozen food proved tricky. Most places want non-perishables. Plus I only had a partial box to share, and I wasn’t sure anyone would take a partial box.

Unfortunately, as I pondered who best to share my breakfast bowls with an email came in from my moms club. One of our members suffered a tragic loss. (The kind that has me tearing up again as I write this post.) Under the supervision of my wonderfully generous friends it was decided that the moms club would be mobilized to provide meals for the family. Not just the standard 2-3 meals when someone has a baby or is ill, this was a special case. It was decided that over the course of a month we would provide three freezer meals twice a week (six meals a week).

In addition to preparing a freezer-ready cheesy chicken casserole that could be eaten immediately or frozen for later, I sent along Tyson Breakfast Bread Bowls. Of course, no amount of food could ever diminish the loss, but at least the family won’t have to worry about food preparation for a little while.
