The newest addition to our M&D collection is the Melissa & Doug Kitchen Accessory Set, a perfect addition for my daughter who loves to “cook cook” in her kitchen. Since I hate cooking, I am not really sure where this comes from, but I am all about encouraging it! (Mom tells me that I was the same way when I was a little girl, but I have my fingers crossed that she will love to cook for real one day.) K loves pretend kitchens, and while we already have one with plastic food and accessories, the bright-red, wooden pots and pans fit in beautifully.

The Kitchen Accessory Set comes with two pots with lids, a pan, a spoon, a slotted spoon and an oven mitt. When I gave the box to my daughter to open, she set up her new set in the middle of our kitchen floor and went straight to work making “pasgetti” for all (moving on to cookies soon thereafter). Although this is her first oven mitt for home, she has a couple at Mimi’s house (from other Melissa and Doug sets) and she LOVES oven mitts, it is so funny. I was almost as excited for the simple mitt as the rest of the set.

As a non-cook myself, I don’t know what it is about play kitchens that draw children in, but everyone of my friends with children has one and it is always the center of attention when the kids get together. At one of my friends’ houses for play the day before I gave K her new kitchen set, I noticed her playing with a pot from the same set. Although this pot lives in the house of 2 kids and has seen a LOT of play, it looked as good as new. (Another great thing about Melissa and Doug’s wooden toys!)

  1. Our play kitchen set gets at least an hour of total play time a day… Such a great investment! My daughter would be soooo excited to find the Melissa and Doug cutting food play set under the tree this year. She’s played with it at Amaya Papaya before, and loves chopping up the bread and watermelon 🙂

  5. My son would like the primary baking set. It is nice that they have things that are not pink. A lot of the kitchen stuff is. My son love to play kitchen but refuses to use the pink stuff.

  8. I would love to have the cupcake stand..My daughter is 3 and a half now and we celebrate her birthday month every month on the 26th the day she was born with a cupcake and candle..I know we are crazy but it is our little tradition…

  11. Just visited the Pretend Play Kitchen Shop site … I know my daughter would love to see Melissa & Doug’s Play Food Sandwich Making Set under the xmas tree this year!! She has few other cutting foods by melissa & doug.. so this would be a nice addition!! I also love the newest kitchen accessory set by M&D too!

  64. My son is all about playing with my kitchen stuff (pots and pans, bowls, spoons, etc.). Since he already plays with those, I think he’d love to have one of the Melissa & Doug Kitchen accessories – Play Food Group set. It would take his imagination to the next level! 🙂
