My daughter is afraid of the potty, and I am afraid to potty train her. Not funny, all true.
My sweet daughter is “cautious” about everything, and afraid of all new things. So, I have taken it slow with the whole potty thing. We got her a little potty for Christmas and slowly introduced her to it. We started by just sitting on it for play with clothes on, and moved on to discussing what it is for and finally trying to use it (a bit). We talk about the potty a lot, and slowly she got the idea that it was ok and started to sit on it. But no pee-pee. After 6 months of sitting on the potty, she did it – just a few small drops. We jumped for joy, sang songs and rewarded. But she is back to not wanting to sit on it again!
So, I am trying a new route. Instead of continuing with the little potty, I am moving to the big potty with the help of the Little Looster. I figure that I am wasting time on this little potty b/c eventually she will get the hang of it, and then I will have to retrain her on a big potty. So, I am skipping a step. We are going to get used to the big potty – with a seat on it and a Little Looster. Check out the Little Looster.
My daughter’s little bathroom is TINY. In fact, we have resigned ourselves to not being about to shut that door until she grows a few feet because when her step stool is in front of the sink the door can’t close. I looked into other step options for the potty, but then I wouldn’t be able to get to the bath without removing it each time – pain in the you know what. Little Looster was the answer for me. It wraps around the potty. It’s big, don’t get me wrong, but it can be pushed up against the potty for space saving, and pulled out a little for use. Space saving genius!
But the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. When the Little Looster arrived, here is the immediate reaction:
Can you believe it?!?! She went right to it, climbed on and sat on the potty!!! Even without a little seat on the potty. OMG!
Of course, she has yet to pee-pee on the big potty, but hey, she is excited about it – that’s a huge step for us! So, this is my new plan, we will start sitting on the big potty and talking about pee-pee in the potty. I am not ready for hard-core bootcamp yet, but when we are ready I know my Little Looster is ready to go! Plus, this solution will grow with her and she can use it for a long time and I won’t break my neck on it trying to bathe her!
