It’s that time of year when parents take a look at their kids closet and realize, “My child grew 2 inches since they wore these clothes. Nothing fits!” That’s right, it’s time to go back to school clothing shopping. And if your child is anything like mine, they have some pretty distinct opinions of what they will and will not wear. A Style Of Their Own

These days K prides herself on being a fashionista. Gone are the days I could just buy what I thought was cute and she would wear it happily. These days, she likes what she likes, and it isn’t always the first (or second) things I pick out for her. Luckily, her taste isn’t so far off from mine, but I certainly must consult her on everything. And you know what, that’s ok. It’s great to watch her develop her own sense of style.

Comfort

First and foremost, everything must be comfortable. If it scratches, pulls or generally is uncomfortable — forget about it. There’s no debate, there’s no getting around it. If it isn’t comfortable, kids aren’t going to wear it. Save your pennies and move on, it won’t suddenly become a favorite outfit.

Durability

As my oldest, I expect clothes I buy for her to last because her sister needs hand me downs. And now with baby girl #3 on her way, well, those clothes really need to last. Although this isn’t something my daughter takes into consideration, it is something I think about when I choose a brand. 

I am so please with the quality of the clothing from Mini Boden, and I am certain that barring any unpredictable and unremovable stains these clothes will be worn by all three of my daughters. 

It’s Ok If It Is A No

I have had to work very hard with my daughter to help her understand that it is ok to say no. I would rather my fashionista tell me when she is trying on clothing that it doesn’t do it for her, than keep it and let it sit unworn in her closet.

Even if I LOVE the outfit, and sometimes I do, I have to step back and say, “Is it a winner? Will you spot it in your closet and want to wear that?” And if the answer is no, it must go back! 

The good news is that because she helped me pick her Mini Boden outfits out online, she loved it all.
