Disney’s Emperor’s New Groove & Kronk’s New Groove Together On Blu-Ray & DVD

Movie titles were provided to facilitate this review, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Get your groove on with The Emperor’s New Groove and Kronk’s New Groove now available from Disney Home Entertainment on Blu-Ray and DVD. For the first time, fans of the groove can get both movies together in a special two-movie combo pack. (Currently, Amazon has the Blu-Ray combo for less than $20 – that’s less than $10 a movie!)

Unlike many Disney cartoons, The Emperor’s New Groove (and sequel) slant slightly older with edgy sarcastic undertones. Read – mom and dad and older kids will think it is hilarious. Much of the humor was lost on my five year old when we watched the movie together, but even still there were moments that she downright belly laughed. It’s that kind of movie.

And the soundtrack is by Sting. Sting!

The Emperor's Kronk's New Groove

The Emperor’s New Groove

The young spoiled Emperor Kuzco (David Spade) is accidentally transformed into a llama by his sinister advisor Yzma (Eartha Kitt) and her doting henchman Kronk (Patrick Warburton). The accident occurs when the lovable but dim henchman manages to poison the Emperor instead of killing him (dark plot warning here). Of all things, he is transformed into a llama.

As a llama he finds himself in the company of a peasant named Pasha (John Goodman) whom he recently informed that he plans to level his home in order to make what for the Emperor’s new summer pool. You can imagine how thrilled Pasha is with this idea. Although Kuzco shows no remorse for his plans to destroy Pasha’s home, Pasha agrees to help the Emperor get home so he can be transformed back into a human.

Neither of the pair anticipates the wild adventure that lays before them. And by the time Kuzco becomes a human again, he has learned the error of his spoiled ways. Most of all he has made a true friend in Pasha.

Kronk’s New Groove

In the sequel, Kronk (the lovable henchman) finds himself staring as the leading man. With Yzma out of the way, Kronk has settled into a quite life in the village. But when he learns that his father will be visiting soon, he cooks up a plan to impress his father with everything he ever wanted for Kronk (wife, house, kids).

Of course, Kronk’s plan goes completely array with some rather comical mishaps. But in the end Kronk discovers that his true riches are his friends and being “true to your groove.”

The Emperor’s New Groove and Kronk’s New Groove are now available on Blu-Ray & DVD and make an excellent addition to the Disney library of movies.
