5 Tips To Save Money For Your Future

We all know that we should save for a rainy day because you never know when you might need it, but saving is hard. It’s hard to put away money for “just in case,” not just because it’s easier to spend it, but because it isn’t very exciting. Let’s face it the idea of needing a just in case fund is daunting, and while saving is important it doesn’t feel very rewarding — because you never really want to have a rainy day.

Tips to Save Money
Nevertheless, it is important to save money — even a little at time, even by learning to save money at the grocery store. So how can you make saving more fun? Like most things, it is all in how you look at it. Instead of just saving for a rainy day, change your mindset and start saving for a sunny day.

Save for a sunny day?

Yes. Like most chores, saving becomes easier when you look at the positive side. For example, I am saving for my sunny day — traveling with my children. I can’t wait to show my girls the world, and I look forward to taking pictures of them seeing their first snowfall, standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon and looking up at the Eiffel tower.

5 Tips To Save Money For Your Future

Save for your sunny day – Envision what you want in life. Do you want to travel, send your kids to college, buy a home? Whatever it is, visualize yourself achieving that dream. Focus on what it will feel like to see the world, watch your child accept their diploma or stand in the doorway of your new home. Use that feeling of accomplishment to drive your savings.

Set mini goals – The key to success is to set mini obtainable goals along the way to your big goal. Using travel as an example, you might someday dream of taking a gondola ride in Venice, but you will need a few things to get there. So your mini goals might include saving enough money to buy luggage, airfare, hotel, a tour package, spending money, etc. As you reach each goal, you can rejoice in knowing you are one step closer to your dream Italian vacation.

Be prepared for rain – Life happens and if your sunny day turns rainy you can take comfort in knowing that you have saved money to get you through. Sure, it might be a total set back in reaching your sunny day dream. But once the rain clears, you can once again look forward toward your sunny day dreams.

Make yourself accountable – Whether you create your plan with your spouse or share it with a trusted friend, write it down and say it out loud. When you put it out there and share your plan you are more likely to stick to it. This isn’t a wishy-wash idea of someday, this is a firm plan with a goal that you can and will achieve. You will live this dream.
