When we dine out with the kids, there are a few key requirements 1) kid-friendly food 2) kid-friendly atmosphere (aka noisy) 3) mom/dad-friendly food 4) budget friendly. One of our family’s favorite restaurants is Chili’s. It’s not just one of our favorite places to eat out; it is so popular with our friends that when we eat there we are bound to run into someone we know. (Seriously, it is a running joke that every time we go we see at least one other family we know.)
Mom and dad don’t feel like cooking? Great, we’ll go to Chili’s! (No really, it’s a treat for us – no cooking and for the kids!)
I know Chili’s has a giant menu with lots of yummy dishes (I have tried and enjoyed a great deal of them), but I’m such a creature of habit that I always get the same thing. Chicken fajitas! Yum. And what goes well with fajitas? Margaritas!
In my family, margaritas are a family drink. So much so that during a recent trip to Chili’s K thought nothing of ordering her own margarita. No, really she did. The waitress rattled off the specials, and when she got to the margarita K announced, “I want a margarita!”
Before you go calling DCF, she has no idea margaritas have alcohol in them. For that matter she has no idea what alcohol is. She’s 4. What she knows is that at Mimi and Papa Jack’s house her favorite thing to do is sit around the outdoor bar have a “margarita” and hang out. So to her, a margarita would have just been the icing on the cake for our Chili’s visit. (Of course, after we chuckled we explained to her that the margaritas at Chili’s weren’t like those at Mimi’s house.)
We choose not to order margaritas with dinner that night, but have you seen the new CoronaRita at Chili’s? It is a margarita with a Corona. How fancy. (Who wants to bet I would manage to spill it!) It sounds like a great accompaniment to fajitas.
