The Cat In The Hat Tricks & Treats + Word World’s Kooky Spooky Halloween Review ~ Giveaway
If you are looking for cute Halloween-themed DVDs for your little one without any of the Halloween scare factor, The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That: Tricks and Treats and Word World’s Kooky Spooky Halloween are exactly what you need. My daughter loves to watch holiday-themed shows and movies, and with Halloween just around the corner all she can talk about is trick or treating, pumpkins and Halloween. So, of course, she was more than happy to check out the newest release from The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That and a Halloween-themed Word World. And both DVDs met her seal of approval (and mine too).
If you aren’t familar with the new The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That series, you are missing out. They are smartly written, usually involve animals and are educational. (K can tell you all about nocturnal animals thanks to the Cat.) Mom will also appreciate that Martin Short makes a hilarious Cat. In the new DVD release for Halloween, the Cat takes the kids on three Halloween-themed adventures Batty for Bats, Aye Aye! and Trick or Treat.
Word World is another house favorite. K loves the cute characters, and I love the introduction to letters and spelling. While the Halloween adventure is not a new release, it was new to us and K has already watched the DVD twice since its arrival. In the two episodes on the DVD (Kooky Spooky Halloween and Sheep’s Halloween Costume), the animals of Word World get ready for Halloween with treats, costumes and even a…ghost! (Don’t worry, it is just Sheep sleepwalking.)
Both DVDs are perfect for toddlers and up with all the fun of Halloween and nothing scary. Approx running time 30 minutes each.
BUY IT - Another not-so-scary thing mom will love is that the DVDs are available on Amazon for just $6.99 each (and they ship free with orders over $25 or Amazon Prime).

The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That + Giveaway
That’s right, everyone’s favorite cat in the silly striped hat is back in a new series of adventures called, “The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That.” The new series is just as classic as the original with an even stronger educational twist. The new Cat in the Hat series will air on PBS on September 6, 2010. Each half-hour episode will consist of two 11-minute animated adventures that revolve around a specific science concept such as bird migration or animal camouflage. If that sounds boring, let me assure you it is not.
It’s cute, it’s quirky, it’s smart, it’s entertaining and my daughter loves it. It’s the same classic cat with his crazy vehicles and Thing 1 and Thing 2. While the series will air on PBS, we were lucky enough to enjoy the first few episodes on DVD (available on Amazon September 7). After watching the DVD a couple of times, I knew the cat’s voice was familiar so I finally turned over the box and ta-da today’s cat is voiced by none other than Martin Short, what a great choice.
In the five animated shorts included on the DVD the Cat in the Hat teaches the kids about how bees make honey, why birds migrate for the winter, about nocturnal animals, about animals that live in shells and all about ants. My favorite is “I love the Nightlife.”
The best part is that this new series takes an old favorite we all grew up with and makes it new again for our kids. It’s something they can enjoy as new, while we reminse about the old. Of course, the series will be supplemented with books, some of which are already out, others due early 2011. Check out the series on PBS beginning in September.
Buy it – As I mentioned you will be able to follow this series on PBS starting in Septmber, the first DVD will also be available on Amazon September 7.
