The End Of Summer ~ $50 Giveaway

And just like that, summer is over. It always happens the same way, at the beginning of May I panic about three months of no school. How will I fill the days of a busy preschooler for days and days on end? (And this year I added the challenge of a baby on top of that!) I stress and worry about how many days lie ahead.

Then summer begins and we get busy. Some weeks I am not even sure were the time goes, but we stay busy. Suddenly the end of summer approaches, and it’s time to start planning for back to school. I go into panic mode again, this time trying to squeeze in all of the fun things I had planned that we haven’t gotten to yet. And then it happens – school starts once again.

It’s not to say we can’t (or don’t) have fun once school starts, but this time every year I find myself looking back wistfully at those long summer days of just hanging out with my girls.

Summer officially began when we celebrated Memorial Day at the beach.

Popsicle Beach Sunset

In June, we hosted 44 of our closest friends for a summer kickoff water party.

We all ohhed and ahhed over K’s first ballet recital.

July found us back at the beach again for an entire week to celebrate the forth.

Wedding bells rang for my sister, and no one had more fun than my dancing queen!

Flower Girl Wedding Flowers

We cooled off in August with trips to the splash park.

And finally it was time to head back to school.

1st day of school pre-k

Through it all there were a lot of Popsicles! (Notice I never made it in a picture… Ahhh the life of a mom. I promise, I ate more than my fair share of Fudgesicles – yum!) Don’t miss this great coupon for $1 off Yosicles!

Yes, summer is over here in our house. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t still hot hot hot outside. We will continue to cool off with Popsicles long into October, maybe even November. Oh how I love being a Floridian!

So a Popsicle cheers to the start of school and another wonderful year ahead, and may everyone have a great school year!

Thanks For The Jokes Popsicle ~ Giveaway

What’s black and white and red all over?

A skunk on a trampoline.

That joke (from a book we read together) started my daughter on her new current obsession for jokes. She thinks they are hilarious, even when she doesn’t understand them – at all. Feeding my daughter new and funny jokes that she can actually get has become my new job.

Our standard conversation goes something like this:

“Mommy, tell me a joke.”

“Ummmmm,” raking my brain for the last joke I stocked away in my brain for this moment. What did the diamonds name their baby? - Jules.

“Ah ha.” (Her standard, canned “laugh” that she uses for all jokes.)

Then she proceeds to take my joke and twist it into something like this:

What did the shoes name their baby? - Doodle-y-wack

And that joke is also followed by her canned. “Ah ha.” And then, “Is that funny mommy?”

No K, that doesn’t make sense either…

And a few hours later… rinse and repeat.

Luckily a steady supply of Popsicles this summer has produced an almost daily supply of fresh material. How kind of Popsicle to include jokes on it’s sticks!

Popsicle Stick Jokes

What? You haven’t noticed that Popsicle includes jokes on it’s sticks? Well it does, and what’s more they are funny too. Now before you buy a box of Popsicles and report back to me that there were no jokes on your sticks, let me say that jokes are on most Popsicles. We have had a large variety of Popsicles in the house this summer and I am afraid I haven’t paid attention to which Popsicles had jokes and which did not. But most do. I can assure you that Yosicles do have jokes and Fudgesicles (my current obsession) do not.

Here are a few jokes we have discovered on our Popsicle sticks:

What was a trick that the load of bread taught the dog?Roll over

What kind of bird writes letters?A pen-quin

What kind of tree would have the best bark? - Dogwood

How can you defend yourself under water?Carry a sword fish

What do you do when your fish sings flat?Tune-a-fish

Jokes on the sticks are just another reason to love Popsicles this summer. For kids who are reading, the joke is cleverly on the handle while the pun is hidden beneath the Popsicle. After you have committed the joke to memory, turn that joke into a craft project to keep the fun going.

If you have Popsicle-lovin’, joke-tellin’ kids in your house, here’s a coupon for $.50 off a box of Yosicles!

Happy Three-Year Blogiversary To The Suburban Mom

Three years. That’s how long I have been a blogger. It was three years ago this month that I was inspired to start a blog, and three years ago this week that I took the leap and posted my very first post.

When I started, I had no idea where this blog would lead me. I started blogging as an outlet to write and share. When I started, I didn’t even know there was an entire blogging world out there. I don’t think I had ever even read a blog when I started. In my wildest dreams, I could not have imagined that my simple little blog would garner the attention of thousands of readers each week and open doors into
amazing and exciting opportunities.

It was a hobby, but somewhere along the lines it became more. My simple little blog is now my full-time job. I don’t go into an office any more, but I work every day. I work to find and share amazing deals, to be in-the-know on the latest and greatest products, and bring my readers content that they want and enjoy. It’s hard work, and like all jobs there are days I am tired and stressed. But then something wonderful happens and I am ready to go again! In other words, I love my job!

Over the past three years, I have had the privileged of working with a number of amazing companies here are a few of my favorite highlights over the last year:

  1. Reviewing a Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer
  2. Traveling to LA to attend the Red-Carpet Premier of The Lion King
  3. Becoming an Ambassador for PopsicleVerizon
  4. Writing 4,165+ posts with 25,825+ comments.
  5. Building my social media network to 7,000 Facebook fans and 9,500 Twitter followers
  6. Attending the Chimpanzee Red Carpet Premier
  7. Being invited to tour Chick-fil-A headquarters
  8. Attending two FAM events at Hammock Beach and Clearwater Beach
  9. Being recognized in public by readers :)
  10. Made some amazing blogger friends online and in real life.

While reflecting on the things I have done, I am also reminded of things that I want to do.

  1. A new blog design – it’s time for a new look.
  2. Write an ebook – it’s been on my to-do list for a long time.
  3. Build a series of posts about how to make money online – you know you want to read this!
  4. Engage my readers more – I want to hear from you!
  5. Attend BlogHer – next year for sure.
  6. Be interviewed on TV or in print.
  7. Share more craft project – I love crafting.

Thank you for reading and sharing my posts with your family and friends. And thank you to the brands and PR firms who have believed in me and invited me to be a part of your campaigns. I have come a long way since my very first post three years ago - Recycle Ink Cartridges for Charity, I can wait to see where the next three years take me.

Popsicle Stick 4th of July Flag Craft For Kids

Since summer began, we’ve been eating a lot of Popsicles. Yum-Yum! In my ever-constant attempt to be less wasteful, I have saved every Popsicle stick. My friends laughed at my constant request of, “Don’t throw that stick away, I’ll take it.” But we finally had a chance to put those sticks to good use this week, and I think my friends will finally understand. This project is green, easy, fun and cute!

Popsicle Stick Flag Craft

Materials:

Popsicle Craft Supplies

Start by painting the Popsicle sticks. You will need 2 all red ones, 1 all white one, 2 red/blue and 2 white/blue. (Notice that is only 7 sticks, you will use the other two sticks to hold your flag together.) To show my daughter where to paint, I taped off one end of the stick, then peeled off the tape to paint the other side. Be sure to put down some paper to compensate for over zealous painting :)

Popsicle Stick Craft Painting

The hardest part of this craft is waiting for the paint to dry! We painted all of our sticks and then let them sit over night before assembling the flag. If you have a bigger kid, you could try assembling first then painting using the tape to mask off each stripe.

Once dry use your paint brush to paint glue along the edges of each stick to stick them together. Then use the extra sticks you have to reinforce your flag. Break one stick in half and glue the broken pieces and full stick across the back like so:

Popsicle Stick Craft

Add some ribbon to hang your flag and you have handmade 4th of July decor! I hope next time you have a Popsicle you will save your stick to create something beautiful. To help you get started, here’s a $1 off a box of Popsicle’s Yosicles (part Popsicle + part yogurt = all yum!).

I still can’t decide if I like the ones with or without “stars” best. What do you think?

Win A Trip To LA To Meet SpongeBob SquarePants AKA Tom Kenny

Did you know that the guy who voices SpongeBob SquarePants, that’s Tom Kenny, is also the voice of Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh, Mr. Lopart and Pat “the Hammer” from Handy Manny, and oddles of other characters you are probably familiar with too? I don’t know about you, but I was so surprised. Picture those characters in your head — can you believe the voices of each come from the same guy! It’s actually kind of funny.

I recently had a chance to chat with Tom, who sounds nothing like any of these characters when you are talking to him by the way, and I was surprised to learn that many of he voices you hear on TV and movies are created by a small group of actors in Hollywood with a large repertoire of characters. Tom laughed when he told me that his IMDB page is longer than Adam Sandlers. (It is a LOT longer, I checked.)

Tom Kenny SpongeBob SquarePants

I asked this father of two (eight and 14) what advice he has for kids who might want to get into his field. He told me that two of the most important traits in his career have been versatility and being easy to work with (actually he said “not being a jerk”). Like many professions voice acting is a lot about who you know, and if you have a reputation for being a good guy to work with and having the ability to create several characters for a single show people will remember you when another project comes along.

Another piece of advice Tim shared for kids is to “Grab a glove and get in the game.” Instead of just playing a video game, learn about how video games are created. Read a book, ask questions. Tom says that whatever kids (or adults) enjoy doing, they should learn as much as they can about it and then go for it. That he says is the key to finding a job that you like.

This summer Tom Kenny has teamed up with Popsicle to help kids “get in the game.” Together they created an all-new Popsicle mini cartoon starting Popsicle Pete. (Nope Tom isn’t Popsicle Pete, he is Popsicle Pete’s Mom!) But they didn’t finish the story! That’s where fans come in. Instead of just releasing a cartoon, Popsicle decided to create a contest where fans would have the opportunity to write the ending. So here’s your chance to be a mini screen writer and see your words brought to life by Tom and the Popsicle team in Los Angeles, CA .

To enter, watch the open-ended Popsicle Pete adventure and create your own ending, in the form of a 50-250 word written script. Your script must include Popsicle Pete combining with yogurt in an unexpected and wacky but safe way.

The prize -  A 5-day/4-night trip for two to Los Angeles, CA to meet narrator Tom Kenny and witness his transformation of the winner’s script into a live action animation spot during his voiceover session. Trip includes round-trip coach air transportation, hotel accommodations and $500.

The contest ends June 12, so gather the family, watch Popsicle Pete (and his mom) and brainstorm ideas for what should happen next. You too could have the chance to chat with the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants and see Tom Kenny bring your ending to life. Enter on Popsicle’s Facebook page.
