This Linksys WRT3200ACM Wi-Fi Router review is sponsored by Best Buy.
As a blogger who works from home, great Wi-Fi connection is key to my daily success. I’m fortunate to have my personal 24/7 tech support / on-call husband to help make sure everything is working as it should, but the downside to of a techy husband as that nearly everything in our house requires an IP address, many of them via Wi-Fi.
Having been through numerous Wi-Fi setups, our current setup consisted of a 802.11ac router located in the center of our house with a Wi-Fi extender in our bedroom to ensure solid coverage throughout the house. It provides solid performance, but when I had the opportunity to review the latest Wi-Fi tech from Linksys and Best Buy, my husband was happy to test out the new piece of hardware.
The Linksys WRT3200ACM MU-MIMO Gigabit Wi-Fi router, from Best Buy, powered by Tri-Stream 160 technology is one of the most advanced wireless routers available with the ability to double the bandwidth on all spatial streams. The MU-MIMO tech allows for “multiple user – multiple in, multiple out” capabilities that can provide the same high-speed data to multiple devices simultaneously. While there are limited devices that currently support this tech, the router will provide plenty of speed and capability for the future. Translated from “geek speak,” this means you’ll have a strong and fast connection for all your Wi-Fi devices.
The router is also no slouch is the spec department featuring a 1.8 GHz CPU, 256 MB of flash and 512GB of memory, 4 gigabit Ethernet ports and is open-source compatible with OpenWRT and DD-WRT software.
One of my favorite features is the Linksys Smart WI-FI app that allows you to keep tabs on, control and make changes to your router from anywhere. Just this week my mother-in-law was watching the kids and needed Wi-Fi access. After a quick text to my husband at work, he was able to set up a guest network through the app and text her the network name and password in less than two minutes.
So how did the Linksys WRT3200ACM perform compared to our previous router and repeater setup? Before installing the new router, my husband ran tests both in the same room as our router and our bedroom with the repeater and was able to get speeds of 95 Mbps and 91 Mbps. Not bad.
After switching over to the new Linksys, tests clocked in with nearly a 20% increase at 115 and 112 Mbps — without the need for a separate repeater. After checking from every room in the house, tests consistently showed speeds over the 100 Mbps mark. Perfect Wi-Fi throughout the house, can’t argue with that.
If you’re in the market for an easy-to-setup, easy-to-manage and fast-throughout Wi-Fi router, the Linksys WRT3200ACM, from Best Buy, is definitely one to checkout. The Tri-Stream 160 technology with ensure the fastest Wi-Fi connection to all of your current and future MU-MIMO devices.
